What does the Local Guides program mean to me?

When I was a kid never really liked history, maybe I had bad teachers, a bad curriculum or a very short attention span, even so abandoned places always captured my attention. See, I was very rebellious always trying to go to places I wasn’t supposed to; making my own mini adventures. Abandoned places were always my favorite maybe because they were intriguing and mysterious. Once full of history, now left to the elements; I wondered what would their walls say if they could talk. I still hated history even when I was drawn to it.

Years latter I found myself exploring an old convent when I stumbled onto an Historian that told me all about the history of that place, its town and the significance of the fortifications around it, connecting all the dots as he went trough, with the logic of why and how, filling with the values of the time. Suddenly everything clicked, the subject I hated the most became a topic of admiration and it became one with exploring and adventure.

Local Guides lets me be that historian to other people. But it also lets me find him again, although a different one in a different town with a different story.

The Convent I was exploring

Be it a really nice restaurant, an historic place or a beautiful one I can help other people and tell them about things I’d like to know, this community allows me to learn and share experiences with others.
