What does the Local Guides program mean to me

Hey, I am Hema a local guide level 6, an Indian expat working in Dubai.

I came to know about the Local Guides program and Connect Live Event from a friend an year ago. At the beginning it was a wish to attend the Connect Live happening in U.S, because traveling to US at least once in lifetime is a dream come true for me.But later I got the essence of being a local guide and I started focusing on giving genuine reviews and information about the places I visit and experience.

I always try to give accurate information and genuine reviews of the quality, timings, amenities, contact numbers, website details. For example when I visit a hotel I give reviews about the cleanliness, customer service, quality of food and whether it is a dine in or a take away.

I hail from the southern state of India, Kerala, which is a land of different Hindu temples. But all these places have different timings,so whenever I visit a temple I find the timings and update that along with the basic amenities there, so that other people who visit these places can have exact information and plan their trips easily using maps.

It was surprising to know that my reviews about these not so famous temples in my small town have many views and had helped people. Now it gives me encouragement to post more reviews and be part of this amazing program

For me, being a local guide is helping the community and bringing the easy accessibility of the world to an online platform like Google Maps.

Such tiny efforts from local guides like me from all around the world helps the community and after all being a social animal is all about communicating and sharing with other beings.
