What does the Local Guides program mean to me?

Hello all!

I believe the Local Guides program is an amazing way to bring more of the world’s secret places to light. As a photographer, I like to scout new locations before arriving in order to save time and to get an idea of the perspectives that other photographers have found. Whether it’s a landscape, portrait, or even just an interesting perspective, viewing and sharing images is the best way to get an idea of what an area has to offer. To be able to simply click on a location on a map and see hundreds of photo options is basically a photographer’s dream!

Local Guides not only lets you find beautiful locations around the world but it also helps to instill a sense of calm when you are about to go to an unfamiliar area. I started using this program when I first opened my photography business and was meeting with clients at coffee shops all over NY/NJ. I would search for a location of the map and hope that someone had posted a photo of what the exterior and interior looked like so that I knew I wasn’t meeting clients inside a shopping mall… which did happen a time or two! I see now, that thousands of people are not only enjoying my images for their artistic value but also getting a sense of peace with having a better idea of where they are going and what to expect. This is most evident, with the number of views of places I’ve photographed in NYC, where everyone is worried about if there is parking and having time to recognizing locations before passing them.

As a marketing photographer, the Local Guides program has also allowed me to give back to the great companies that I work for. I have found that sharing even just a few of their images in the Guide Program, has helped to bring more attention to their businesses. To see hundreds, thousands, and even tens of thousands of views on my images, truly makes me feel that this a program is a valuable tool for everyone. I’m excited to see where it ends up as it is sure to grow immeasurably as soon as everyone finds it’s true value.
