A couple of years ago, I remember how risky was travelling to a place in which you don’t know much about. Of course you had the possibility to ask locals and give it a try, but maybe that person didn’t have the same tastes as you, and that experience was not so positive as you may expect. What I love from the Local Guides community, is that you can make yourself an opinion based in what other users have experienced before!
Since a couple of years I work in the hotel industry on the Canary Islands. Not a long time ago I realised how important this is for us . Reading the reviews other local guides leave make us able to improve quality as never before. I really think we hotelliers (and any other service providers) are really lucky to have this tool and check live how can you be better at your job, and what your customers like the most about your business!
On the other hand, being a Local Guide, even if I’m new with this, brings me a very good feeling. I’m really excited to be able to help others to discover new places and avoid others they may not like. If another user visit a place because of my reviews, makes me very happy. It can compare to the times I visit a place someone reccomends and enjoy it, and it happens most of the times!
But if I have to highlight what I like the most about Local Guides, it would be having all the places I have visited and the ones which I’d like to visit one click away, is like the diary I never filled up!
