What does the Local Guides program mean to me : Hobby turned into a PASSION!
Is it a contribution or is it a due…
Just a connection between me and you…
In this strange and beautiful world so wide…
I will always be your local guide…
Hello everyone, My name is Darshan. I live in one of the most beautiful
places in the world, Udaipur, the city of lakes in the dry state of Rajasthan of India.
During graduation, it became part of my routine to visit places in the city on the weekends and gradual interactions with the tourists made my day. Now I had a tiring job, but these interactions never ended.
I still remember adding my first place in the google map and it felt so superior that I have the ability to add places which can help the people. It was like my knowledge finally
found it’s place. All the trips with my father since my childhood were about knowing about each and every lake of the city, how it was built, why it was built, the story behind each stone of the temples. I finally found a place to drop the facts which were fading away with the introduction of cafes and restaurants at historical places. As of now Nobody knew the LAAL GHAAT (one of the bank of Lake Picchola, Udaipur). People call it as the stairs near the RAINBOW CAFÉ. But when I added things on google map I could feel my contribution in restoring the history of my own city.
There are also false marks which misguide the people looking for information.
For instance, the search result of Rajasthan state on internet will mention it as a dry and rainless state but who will expect the oldest mountain range of India, city of lakes and monsoon palace in this very dry state of Rajasthan.
Adding or editing these places on Google Maps is like I’m paying my dues that I owed to my city & my culture. I don’t want them to be named or associated incorrectly due to some other irrelevant or false information. (Example - associating Laal Ghat as stairs near Rainbow Cafe)
And this is the main reason of my special love for the local guide program. IT MAKES ME FEEL
CONNECTED TO MY OWN CITY. It is now undoubtedly an integral part of my system! Being a part of this program, was clearly not my job, but it was my
hobby which has been turned into a PASSION!
I want to repeat my lines again
