What does the Local Guides program mean to me; Helping people make informed choices about places

I’m Ibraheem Mohammed, I have spent most part of my life in and around Lagos, Nigeria.

I see things differently from most people around and this developed into a great sight for Photography, Videography and Creative designs.

This reminds me of a business location i added on Google Map about 9 months ago - (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Nq4nZvYLBfESNY5PA).

I went back there to print some documents for a client and a conversation ensued with one of the staff of the company, i thought i could add more pictures of the location on Google map as they have added more sophisticated printing machines, i started taking the pictures and the staff excitedly inquired if i was the one who created the profile at first, my response was in the affirmative, he hurriedly called the CEO’s attention with a wide grin. The man took me to his office and was full of appreciation, in his words "You have no idea of the impact of adding my business profile on the world map (Google map), customers found and located my business all the way from Kano State (Almost 1,000km apart) to Lagos State for a print job worth Millions of Naira, this has hugely improve the finances and exposure of my business. He inquired about the cost of adding his business to the map, he was ready to pay handsomely, i however turned it down and said “You should thank Google”.

For me, the Local Guides program is all about the privilege of being part of a community that is helping people make informed choices about places and the fulfillment derived in realizing how helpful my contributions have been from feedback from users and business owners in and around Nigeria.

I have also had the opportunity of meeting and interacting with other Local Guides in different parts of Nigeria, sharing ideas and learning from one another, this has greatly improve my contribution style on Google map.
