What does the Local Guides program mean to me? Democracy!

Being an immigrant and living another life till age of 27 in a country where the information is controlled and you have to rely on your friends and family’s experience, helped me a lot to appreciate more the privilege of having access to such a great democratic tool on a public platform.

Chitgar Lake, Tehran, IRAN June 2019

I came from a country that due to lack of the freedom of expression, having access to information and sharing them is a day-to-day challenge which leads to scarcity of reliable sources.

After buying my first Google cellphone in 2017, I noticed that each time that I visit a place, Google send me the notifications to ask about my opinion!! Because of such an intuitive platform, it was easy to start my first contribution as a Google local guide.

Glissade des pays d’en haut, Saint-Sauveur, Quebec, CANADA February 2019

It felt really rewarding and encouraging for me to have people and businesses like my posts and view my photos.

I found a voice which helps me having a positive impact for my community.

United Nation, Geneva, SWITZERLAND May 2017

The example of which is my critical review on a Sushi restaurant about a year ago which leads to the owner’s reaction. He contacted me for more details. After a short period of time, they asked me to go back there to see the changes.

I must admit that this specific experience makes me realize that my voice is been hearing.

I learned that putting some time and being passionate about what we’re doing as a local guide, creates a better environment to live and enjoy our precious moment together.

Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec, CANADA Dec 2018

Therefore, I decided to write more detailed oriented comments such as wheelchair accessible entrance, wheelchair accessible parking, etc. that can include all the tastes and not only based on my personal perspective and preferences.

In this give and take journey, I learned that there are some other people like me out there who put their honest reviews, so that we can benefit from them for our own personal experience.

The example of which was when I visited Niagara Falls for the first time. It was always my dream as a kid to go there and now I was there with my Canadian in laws.

Niagara Falls, Ontario, CANADA May 2019

Even it’s such an incredible place to visit, it’s so touristic. But being a local guide and trusting my peers helped me to find an authentic Greek restaurant and it turned to a great evening for everyone.

After three years of being an active local guide, I feel responsible to encourage good commerce and trying to improve others that need some constructive feedback.

Live and work in old Montreal, the main touristic hub in the city, helps me a lot to be able to help the visitors and locals to spend some quality time in my beautiful town!

Thanks for an excellent well written post @SaraGuides and lovely photos.

I understand you moving to Iran although what I know of it, it is a beautiful country and a country I want to visit. Local Guide @Rezgar has many good posts about Iran. He has also produced many good lists.

I’m sure you are enjoying Montreal and Canada as a whole. I’ve been told that Canada and New Zealand have many similarities and the people are similar as well. Going by my visit to Toronto in 2019, I believe there is truth in that.

You dream of visiting Niagara Falls and fulfilling that dream, well done. What is life if we can’t follow our dreams and ambitions. I visited Niagara Falls on 1 November 2019, several months after you. It was very cold when I was there although I did enjoy, and like you, fulfilled a dream and another tick on my bucket list.

Thanks again for your post and keep following your dreams.

Hello my dear friend @TheEagleEye , Thanks a lot for your feedback. Iran is such a beautiful country and I highly recomment it to everyone to visit there once.

October is pretty cold in Canada , and the best month to visit Niagara falls is in june - july that you can visit the wineries as well. We found a super super nice bed and breakfast there. It’s for an italian couple and amazing service. I put the link in below:

Best best breakfast and service!!

It’s pretty similar the culture of New Zealand and Canada I guess. Hope to have you here in Montreal once. :slightly_smiling_face:

@SaraGuides Oh, it’s great. Moscow is not so far from us and though it’s another country, we have similar traditions.
