What does love mean to you?

I’ve been on Connect for more than three years, and every day I see how love and friendship bring us together. The love for our countries and hometowns, for our cultures and traditions, and for helping others by sharing our experiences on Google Maps. I’m inspired by the Local Guides’ friendships that span across the world and the mutual respect and support. Over the years, some of you have fallen in love, while others have shared their love for ours and their community.

With Valentine’s Day coming up, I started thinking about what love means to me and what it means to other people. For me, love is togetherness. When it comes to people, it is a feeling of belonging, compassion, and understanding. It’s what I feel when I look into my partner’s eyes.

But it is also the feeling of coming together and connecting with nature that I get when I look at a beautiful landscape. Or connecting with my body when I nourish it with intention and sometimes spoil with favorite treats—like a thin, cheesy slice of pizza with a crunchy crust and finely-cut tomato slices.

Love has many faces and flavors, and I love to rediscover its meaning as part of our community. I’m curious to find out: What does love mean to you? Share a photo of yourself holding a piece of paper with one word that describes love for you. Let me know why you chose that word in the comments below.

Its a good question @NadyaPN having been married for a very long time (you do less time for murder etc etc) I think love means companionship and comfort and the knowledge that if you get mad at each other its ok again the next day because there is something bigger that gets you through. What do you reckon @ChristinaP93 still wanna grow older together?

Love means “Sacrifice” to me.

It’s the ‘giving up of oneself, one’s emotions, one’s convenience’ if only it will make another happy or make their lives better in some way.

I can’t hold an A4 paper to snap for now, for some reason, I hope this will do for now.

I look forward to reading from others @NadyaPN

I have met only one Nadya till date, Her mum is Nigerian, Her dad is Egyptian. She has one of the most beautiful hair I have ever seen. You are beautiful, Nadya and your smile is heartwarming. All the best on this thread.

@NadyaPN , interesting topic in interesting time…

For me I believe it’s “Trust” you have for each other.

The trust you can be your selves with eachother,

The trust that you care for eachother,The trust that you could get through anything life will throw at you,

The trust that having each others back.

The trust that you could sort anything with eachother at the end of the day,

The trust that the other person will be there for eachother…

And the list goes on…

@KashifMisidia thank you for sharing this post with me.

@NadyaPN Thanks for sharing this great post ahead of this weekend. Love and care is an important aspect of our daily lives, especially nowadays when we are connected to many people from all over the world with different cultures, faith, beliefs and more. For me, love and care, besides the usual definition in the dictionary, is also about trying to keep others in mind so their well being are looked after, even sometimes at the expense of ourselves. It’s also about, letting others “win” sometimes, and also being extremely patient and understanding in all situations. We don’t have to insist we are always “correct”, because none of us are infallible anyways. Be first to seek to understand others, before being asking to be understood. This applies to a loved one, a family member, a partner, a close friend, an acquaintance, a stranger and all.

And sometimes, I would be the first person to admit, I fall short, so we keep trying each day to love and care more, with more patience. Thanks to all friends here for your kind friendship and care over the months and years.

The 5 core values of Connect is always a good read for me.

Hey @PaulPavlinovich ,

That’s just so sweet! I think I have a similar opinion on love - for me love is efforts. Daily efforts such as thinking about what the other needs, how to make their day better, how to make them feel good, compromises and so on. I believe that love (as everything else) should be maintained and invested in if you want it to succeed and grow into something bigger. As far as I’m concerned this is applicable to all types of love, meaning a relationship, your hobby, even your job - if you love it, you will invest your time and put some efforts in it.

Hey @NadyaPN Great topic!

For me the true meaning of love is friendship. A friendship in which there is a selfless spirit of getting something and the same friendship I have gained here through this community.

Happy Valentines day to all my friends :heartpulse:

@NadyaPN A few years ago when the social media revolution did not come, people did not trust each other because they were away from each other, now that there is a social media era that has brought people closer together and has ended the distance among people, now people are beginning to know each other’s culture, clothing, living, people are loving each other and have ended the distances and I think It is love for each other that the people are participating in each other’s suffering and that is the humanity.

Hello @NadyaPN ,

Lovable post in love month (February).

I think Love is the outcome of extreme happiness and feelings with someone. In local guiding program we work and spend time together. So, I think this is also LOVE to each others.

Cheers from India !
