Google local guides program means a lot to me especially because in a way it ensures sharing and caring. To someone like me, who is at home baby-sitting her toddler, this program was an amazing opportunity. It gave me a useful purpose to help others while sitting within the confines of my home.
As a local guide, I have found this platform a great way to share one’s experiences and reviews and also help others find places and give useful direction. Also, it has helped me to care for other people’s ease and comfort. There had been times when my answers regarding a wheel-chair accessible eatery or a bus station in my locality was great help.
I started my google local guides journey a year back when I was asked to review about a kids’ school in my locality. At that time, I had no idea about this program. But then as I started receiving prompts to review places I had visited or answer some questions, I became more active and made it a point to contribute regularly.
Here is a screenshot of my most viewed picture on Google Maps and that too my first picture…
I started looking forward to the monthly emails form google showing how my reviews and photos had gathered views. It motivated me to do better. In more ways than one, I would consider my first perk from google as the real motivator. I was so thrilled that I couldn’t wait to share it with others and posted it on my Instagram.
Although I love travelling, most of my travels have always been within the country. I never thought my knowledge about local places would help someone someday. Now I know differently and it is so gratifying to see your reviews make a difference.
For the past five or six years, I had been relying on google maps to find places and reviews. Now it has become my turn to add new places, pictures and reviews and am doing it with great pleasure. This program is actually a blessing and I am so glad to be a part of this community.
