Google Maps’ Local Guides program has given me a phenomenal platform to contribute in distinct ways aiding people to search, to navigate and to discover places of their interest.
Having been doing this for past two years, it interests me even more when I notice how so many other local guides are contributing selflessly. It’s a complete voluntary program and yet such a magnificent response given to it deserves due acknowledgement, and that’s what I love the most about this program.
I am glad for I was able to add reviews, rate places and also add suggestions which have proved helpful.
One of the most helpful reviews that I have written is of the library which I go to. I believe many others like me who were looking for a good library found my review helpful.
It maybe because I have clearly mentioned the available facilities there for the students.
I have also added that there is a tea stall for refreshment after studying for a long time.
But I noticed that it wasn’t added yet to the Google Maps. So I added that place and Google readily approved it.
I was very glad because now the small businesses such as the roadside tea stalls will get recognition not only from the library students but also other people.
Also editing places which have now been moved to another location or closed down helps people get correct information. This happened to me when I went to eat at my favorite cheese and chocolate restaurant only to find out it was shifted to another location but this information wasn’t updated on Google Maps. Then I edited the details correctly.
Contributing to this program is like becoming a virtual travel guide and the job of a travel guide has always fascinated me. It gives me an excellent opportunity to share my experiences with everyone and help them search, navigate and visit their places of interest. I do this by writing reviews and sharing photos and videos and adding places which are not already there or editing any incorrect or unavailable information.
I am extremely glad to be a part of this community which happily volunteers to make this world a better place to live in!
