What does Local Guides mean to me?

What does Local Guides mean to me?
I started using Google Maps when I took my son who is a wheelchair user to football in the UK.
We could not get into our favourite teams ground, Aston Villa, because they do not have very many
wheelchair seats and so we started going to lower league grounds where they let us sit right by the pitch.
I started to log the grounds we had been to and very soon discovered that it was really useful for
wheelchair users to make sure we could get in.

All grounds are definitely not the same!

My son wanted to go every league ground in the UK. This is a thing. It is called “Doing the 92”.
He completed it this year just in time before the football stopped because of Corona virus.
This season is particularly special because Bury have been expelled from the league so he “Did the 91”
which may be unique in years to come. It may well be much less than 92 for a few years because clubs will
be bankrupted by corona virus measures.

We have now started going to football grounds in Scotland. Celtic FC is locally known as “Paradise”.

That’s what it means to the fans.

As far as #wheelchair users are concerned it is Paradise, the best provision for wheelchair users in the UK we
have seen, bar none.

Hallo @Dave26 truly a very touching and inspiring story, one side is doing the best for your child and on the other hand as a local guide your personal experience has helped others. Warm regards to your son and continue to contribute on Maps

Thank you for sharing this story

Thank you @TravellerG @AnikSetyawati for your lovely comments. A Happy New Year to both of you from the UK. Stowe Pool is also a special place for us now.

During lockdown in March and April here in the UK we went for a family walk round Stowe Pool for our daily exercise. There are benches for people to sit on all around the pool, one of them is by Dr Johnson’s Willow. Sean has been working hard on his walking and walked without his wheelchair to the first bench on the first day. Gradually each day his walking improved and over the days and weeks of lockdown he managed to walk for two benches and three and four until he could, by May, walk all the way round the pool. Sean has not used his wheelchair since then and his walking continues to improve. Lockdown was not all bad!

Hail Hail :four_leaf_clover:

Hey Gee… Quick question, completely off topic, but I’m curious. Does your badge turn green because you turn level eight because I’m like I think I’ve got like 13,000 points you got to have 15,000, but your badge goes from yellow to Green at the 8th level?
