What does adding a caption to your uploaded Google Maps photo do?

I’m just curious, as I’m uploading photos to a business/location it’ll allow you to add a caption to a photo like a photo of a ATM and captioning it “ATM.”

Are people able to search for captions? Or is it just saying “this is the caption for this photo” as their viewing it?

Hello @Timekeeper

At present, we can’t search on a caption.

Currently, that allows the user to describe a photo in an accurate manner. Beyond that, if you wish to have a text search functionality, you are welcome to suggest that in the idea exchange.

Hi @Timekeeper .

As of now writing caption for a photograph is only to describe it specifically. Like if you have visited some restaurants and posted pics, then putting names of the dishes as caption.

There is no option of serching through these captioned words on GMap. But Captioning the picspics will make Maps better in understanding .

Thank you

Hi, @Timekeeper

Sometimes I add caption on my photos to highlight some details that I’ve mentioned in my review.

Hi @Timekeeper

I dont know its direct reason. But for sure it helps the local stores

Search any shop which has a “MENU”.You will notice most of the products have a label.

1st reason: Someone added the photo with a caption.

2nd reason: Someone did make an edit on the menu and put the label on the product.(Tip: this counts as 5 points).

I hope this helps. Best regards.

Maps uses the captions to categorise the images @Timekeeper

Hey @Timekeeper Have a happy & safe Quarantine.
The answer to your question from my end would be that every picture tells a story on Maps and it will help the viewer understand a particular photo and things in it even better by adding a caption to it. The caption will also help the photo putting it under particular categories on Maps. In the end you make it easy for viewers.
Thank you.
