What connects me to Google Maps?

In 2019, few hours away from the deadline for “Connect Live 2019”, It’s nice to take a walk down my Local Guide memory lane.

Why did I got into this Lane and covered almost 50,000 miles?

What made me start and what keeps me going?

What made me get into Local Guide?

Living in India, being the eldest of a dozen cousins, you have certain responsibilities. You are also expected to be a guide when you take younger ones out. In a Metro city, there is always plenty of options and we need ‘some’ guidance in selecting from the options. Being an introvert and naturally hesitant to ask people around for directions and suggestions, the concept of being a local guide means helping out my fellow global Introvert community and others who look for reviews. Getting into this community and contributing was a natural step.

Why do I care to be a Local Guide?

In second word countries, we still do not have good infrastructure yet. For ‘Differently Abled’ people we still do not have standard facilities like ramp, parking or toilet accessible. It would take years and years and millions and millions to get the needs met. With Google maps, we now have the ability to mark places which are friendly to all. For me, this is a good deed.

What keeps me going?

Well, I do dream to make this world a better place. Making life easier for others is something everyone loves to do. Being a foodie, I enjoy exploring small restaurants and high-end restaurants equally, adding Photos, review and ratings to such places has become a habit.

It’s a pleasure to add new places to map. Knowing the traffic every place in map gets and knowing that every entry helps many a lives, is just good enough reason that keeps me going.

Every month when Local Guides news-teller, congratulates me for being in Top 1% of local guides, I do feel useful

Inspiring story. Feels good to see the posts of my fellow indian local guides who have reached so far upto level 8. Quite inspiring. Just like any other country, India has improved alot in the digital geographical accuracy. There are still pitfalls, particularly in the remote areas that makes navjgation unreliable sometimes. But as the local guides community in our country is improving, we shall see the point closer to perfection soon in the coming years.
