Being part of the Local Guide community has made my life and the life of those around me completely different. I’ve been a local guide for a couple of years now, and these two years have been quite interesting.
When I became a local guide, a new door opened to me. Even though I’ve never traveled abroad before, I felt like I could go anywhere with anyone domestically and make sure that this person would definitely enjoy his time. I felt as free as a bird because I didn’t have to think about how I’d get back home; everywhere became my home. Google Maps has always made it easier for me to just go out and about regardless of the time or place. As a local guide, I know my honest opinion matters. My review matters. My photos matter. That’s why I’m trying my very best to let people see these beautiful places through my eyes. I know I’m also supporting my country and its tourism by sharing more and more places.
When I was younger, I wanted to learn Korean. I wanted to be part of that community no matter what, and in 2018, because I was a local guide, I knew where I should go. That’s how my journey as a student at the Korean Cultural Center in Egypt started. I got to meet many people and experience a totally different culture. I got to make memories and capture and share every single one of them on Google Maps.
That was only the beginning!!! From that point on I became able to talk to foreigners and show them around Cairo. Being a local guide made me confident enough that I’d be able to take care of my guests and make them feel as if this was there country. Last year I took a Korean friend of mine to a local restaurant where he got to enjoy the local Shawerma. Only a good local guide knows which restaurants are the best to give her guest a safe, unforgettable experience.
I just can’t express how much I love being a local guide and how it has made my short time on earth happier and more lively. It made me discover myself and my history alongside with my beloved ones. This happened during summer 2019 when I finally got a chance to go to Luxor!!! Witnessing those amazing monuments made me speechless. It’s where art, history, architecture, nature and life are mixed together. They all meet in those tombs, temples, statues and carvings.
I’m really looking forward to Connect Live 2020, and I’m sure it’ll be one of a kind. I hope I’ll be able to share my stories with my fellow local guides and to hear their own stories as well. Let’s discover the world like never before!
