The Local Guides program has had a significant impact on my life since I got involved a year ago. To me, being a Local Guide means contributing, friendship and discovering new cultures, customs, food and travel.
About an year ago a friend of mine who is a contributor in the Local Guides program himself has introduces me to this program. He told me that he helps others by rating the places he has visited, reviews them and also adds pictures or videos of the said places by the means of Google Maps. I was surprised hearing this and wanted to know more in detail regarding the same. Being a curious cat as always I logged into the Local Guides in my laptop and when I checked out that there are many people around the world who do the same I was fascinated and I checked myself in as a Local Guide myself starting that day which led me to where I am at this moment standing as a Level 7 Local Guide.
Through my involvement in the Local Guides program, I’ve made friends from faraway places. Even though I’ve been a part of global programs before nothing can beat my passion for this program. Through the friends I’ve made, I’ve learned so much about culture and diversity. Local Guides have introduced me to their customs, favorite treats, mesmerizing places to visit and passions. Ultimately, this program celebrates our differences while also uniting us by what we have in common: our love for exploring and trying new things!

I love how being a Local Guide allows me to help others. Specifically, I’ve been able to help small business owners by adding their locations to the map, remove or edit the changes when made in their businesses and I’m able to help their potential customers by leaving reviews to help guide their decisions.
One of my most helpful additions to the maps has been for ARC Academy, a modern tuition institution for kids, and it’s intriguing that it’s been so helpful. My contribution https://goo.gl/maps/o8L4MmpyfsJGLCT79 has flown many families to the place of the Academy and that in-turn helped in developing the kids in their career and also in their cultural improvement.

I also love the friendly competition I get from being a Local Guide. The monthly email gives exciting information about how many people I’ve helped, and if a place I’ve been to is highlighted. I love to show the email to show them the specific difference my contributions are making which in-turn helps some in taking part in this program themselves. Sometimes, my friend and I will compare our stats for places we visited and reviewed together. Usually, when it comes down to the numbers, I win! I always encourage him to give more details in his reviews to help him.
