Being a Local Guide for me has always been giving back, and service to my community and the world at large.
Since I joined the Local Guides program, I’ve visited places I wouldn’t normally go to and meet people from different tribe in quest for interesting facts and information about them to share with the world. This is actually the first global phenomenal service I’ve done and it gives me great pleasure doing it.
The love for exploring places and trying new things has always been part of me, taking street photographs, nature, different cultural symbolisms, just to name a few.
I love the fact that being a Local Guide has presented me with the opportunity to help a lot of people, especially businesses that thought they didn’t matter, connecting them with their community and their neighbors. It is quite unfortunate that the places you need more information are the same places you’ll find very little of them, most especially the rural areas. This is why it is so fulfilling for me knowing that once I visit these places, any other person that comes will find the necessary resources to aid his or her decision.
I’ve also find the reviews so intriguing as it acts as a catalyst for decision making. I once visited a restaurant whose location is not by the road side, they have great outdoor sitting area, great meal and a considerable price list. I became fascinated by these that I began to take some pictures. One of the waiters approached me and asked if I’m one of those that add pictures to Google map, I said yes and he was so excited as he told me how some of their customers told him that they came as a result of a review about them they saw online.
Oh! What a joy it puts on my face when I see the pictures I snapped being viewed by many and the reviews being liked, this shows me that people are always in search of information and it motivates me to even do much more.
