What are the rules when creating Social Media Groups for local guides?

Hi Everyone,

As I scrolled through this list I quickly begin to acknowledge the need for our Kenyan community to have a social media page and I am creating a group for us today but am not sure what the rules are and if it’s fine for me to use the word Google Kenya/Nairobi local guides just like what the other groups in Nigeria have done.

I welcome your thoughts and comments please.

Hi @ahadilugo I do have a Facebook page for our local group and everyone can join as long as the person is a local guide, that is our first rule, and the second one is that we create questions for those who want to join, questions are related to what local guides do and what we can not do based on Google or Local Guide Connect rules and policies.

For the word Google to be included on the naming of your group, I once heard that we are not allowed to include it, that is why most of the groups do not have the word anymore and only few has it. I will advice you to communicate with other local guide who administrate other groups to be on the same page as they might have done the research already for most of the things we come across.

I be-leave that someone from the Google side will answer this question clearly, and I will be waiting for the response also. Thank you.

@ahadilugo you should not use the word Google in the name of the group and neither should you use any of the official Google or local guide artwork (logo, etc). And you should clearly mention in the group description that it is an unofficial group.

That are the main things you should take into account.

Thank you so much for the advice. @Raphael-Mahumane @JanVanHaver do either of you know where I can reference a set of guidelines on how to create a local guide group or page on other social sites? It would be great to get additional information on the rules of engagement and what lines not to cross and how I can collaborate with other admins from different countries and cities.

@Raphael-Mahumane you are truly a life saver. I appreciate you going above and beyond to help out with the links. I have requested to join both groups and I’ve already seen a few things on your page I would like to borrow.

@ErmesT I sure will.

@Raphael-Mahumane @JanVanHaver @ErmesT @ErmesT Since you were all supportive in this topic here is a quick update. I managed to create the fb group and here is a link to it. I read the rules and created the page based on that foundation. I welcome your thoughts and comments before I roll it out and start reaching out to new members.

Looking just great as far as I can see @ahadilugo !

@JanVanHaver thanks abunch that means alot! I already connected with a few local guides here and they seem interested to join the group let’s see if we can build a great community for ourselves

Hi @ahadilugo you did it, and it looks great. The next step will be to reach out to those who are looking for a home group, and share with them so that you can start working as a group. To do that you might need to share your group’s name to other large groups who have a list of groups, so that those who are looking for their local people will be easy to see your group and join.

@Raphael-Mahumane thank you for the support and for choosing to join the group. Here we go! Am super excited
