Welcome to Blagoevgrad :)

Hello Local Guides, I want to introduce you my hometown of Blagoevgrad. I’m sure almost no one here has ever heard of it, or even less visited it. Blagoevgrad is a small town in Bulgaria with a population of 69,178 people as of December 31, 2018 and is associated with the birthplace of world football star Dimitar Berbatov, who plays in various European teams.

Blagoevgrad grew as a great center of science and education. Here is Southwestern Bulgarian University, American University, has dramatic theater, dance ensembles. The location of the town - the proximity of Rila Mountain, the healing mineral baths, favor the development of business tourism. The town is the starting point to the Rila Monastery and to the south towards Melnik and the Rozhen Monastery.

The most visited place near the city is the Bachinovo Park in the Bistritsa River Valley.

Along the 2.5 kilometer promenade there are restaurants, playgrounds. At the end of the alley there is an artificial lake with a depth between 1-1.5 meters which is filled with water from the river Bistritsa.

Over 10,000 people visit the park on weekends.

Many people come to the park to play sports on the fitness equipment located everywhere or to run around the park or to walk along the alleys. There are people who come to have fun and have a great barbecue with their family and friends.

Best regards!

I have had the chance to visit Blagoevrad couple of times and I loved it. Thank you for sharing!

During my last visit, I also got the chance to walk on a street covered with umbrellas. Are they still there? Here is a photo from one of my trips there. Do you have any similar photos?

Also, @AlexandreCampbell gave you some wonderful tips. In addition, you can check these photography tips , since Blagoevgrad has some great architecture that you may wish to highlight in a future post.

Hello @Ekattotii , I hope your stay in Blagoevgrad was pleasant and I hope you visit it again.
Umbrellas on Todor Alexandrov Street in Blagoevgrad are currently missing because the autumn is picking them up and the spring is putting them back on. Unfortunately, I don’t have a single photo of the umbrellas where my big pass is as a Local Guide, but in the spring I will tour the city to shoot the most interesting places and I will upload the pictures here.
Thanks for the suggested tips I will read them.
Regards!

Hi @mockata2 ,

Yes, my visit was great, especially when I got to explore the Varosha neighborhood. I liked that the neighborhood offers a great selection of traditional restaurants. I wonder, are there any that you want to recommend to the Local Guides who might want to visit?

I also look forward to see your future photos :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes @Ekattotii , the Varosha Quarter is one of the most visited places of Blagoevgrad guests. It is one of the old part of the city and dates from the 18th century. Almost everything here has been preserved and restored since the Renaissance. Houses are now galleries, workshops, centers of arts, ceramics, literature, painting and more.
Other places of interest are “the Cross” in the “Zaeva Polyana” locality, where a 38-meter-high cross was erected in 2013 and is visible from almost every point in the city. The cross is lit at night. The place has an unforgettable panoramic view of the city and also a great sunset.

Bachinovo is a park with a lake that is visited by many people (local people and guests) on sunny days. The place is very suitable for walking, sports and relaxation.
When I take pictures, I will post here and describe everything in detail.
Regards!

Hi @Ewaade_3A !
This photo was taken last summer during lunch. At that time there were not many people because it was very warm (28-30 degrees), and the city at that time had no students and was very deserted. In summer, Bulgarians love to go on vacation on our Black Sea and the Greek Aegean Sea.

Best regards!
