Dear Local Guides, hope all’s well.

McDonald’s is well known as a big brand franchise with thousands of locations around the world. A perfect candidate for a Maps Grand Slam.

Google’s guidelines are clear for representing businesses on their services. So, why do many listings have locations and descriptors added to their names on Maps?

This weekend’s challenge is to suggest an edit for at least one McDonald’s in every Tennis Grand Slam country: Australia, France, England and United States. One point per McDonald’s listing. Most points wins.

PS McDonald’s on Google Maps in America looks really well formatted. We searched for McDonald’s in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona and Arkansas before we finally found a single minor edit to suggest in California. PS England’s McDonald’s listings on Maps were in pretty good nick. Had to look for a while for those 78 suggested edits. PS Suggesting edits for Macca’s in France was fun. A bit different with the language barrier. Many of the suggested edits we contributed were for an English name, super simple. :slight_smile: Australia was good too. We believe owners of claimed Google My Business listings are now receiving a notification email, which seems to be having a positive effect on McDonald’s listings on Google in Australia. It looks like McDonald’s GMB listing managers are making better edits since the new notifications. Kind regards from Osaka78

Oh, I didn’t know that this weekend maps challenge was happening. I’m glad now that the GMB owners are receiving a notification to review their edit, hopefully they would have the integrity of having it updated to it’s correct name. Your expertise and prowess is so excellent.

Also congratulations on reaching Level 10! I only just realised today that your badge colour turned black. Well commended!

Yes, thank you for your compliment. Black is the new purple. Our only motivation was getting there before HelloSamsonR. :smiley: Soon the wonderful Local Guides team will need more levels because everyone will be on 10.

As for GMB notification, while it’s available, it’s a very beautiful, subtle and powerful way to communicate directly to GMB owners. Suggested edits now speed up the education cycle. It’s a genius move. Thank you, Maps team. :+1:
