Let’s Talk Perks: Can we get Google One Storage for Active Local Guides!
Hey #LocalGuides community!
As passionate contributors, we’re constantly uploading photos, videos, and detailed reviews to make Google Maps more helpful for everyone. But here’s a challenge many of us face: running out of storage space!

…and more eat into our 15 GB free Google Drive limit faster than we’d like. Some of us even subscribe to Google One just to keep contributing—which feels a bit ironic, doesn’t it?
Idea: Reward Active Local Guides with Google One Storage!
What if Google offered 100 GB or 1 TB Google One plans as a perk for dedicated contributors?
Why this would be a game-changer: No more storage headaches – Upload freely without deleting old files. Better quality content – Encourage high-res photos/videos. Fair recognition – A tangible “thank you” for our volunteer efforts. Win for Google Maps – More content = happier users!
Your Thoughts?
Have you ever hit storage limits because of contributions? Would a Google One perk motivate you to contribute more? Any other perks you’d love to see?
Let’s discuss! Maybe if enough of us rally behind this, Google will take notice.
Keep mapping, everyone—your work makes a difference!
This is such a great idea! As active Local Guides, running out of storage really slows down sharing quality photos and videos. Having Google One storage as a perk would definitely help us contribute more without worries. I can remember I had got complimentary one year Google One Subscription in the past as an active local guide. @Gvipin
Great idea, @Gvipin
As someone who frequently contributes high-resolution photos and videos, I understand the frustration of hitting storage limits. With only 15GB available on a personal Gmail account, it fills up quickly. Sometimes, I find myself having to delete old backups or purchase extra space just to continue supporting the Maps community.
Offering Google One storage as a reward would be a meaningful and practical incentive for active Local Guides.
Additionally, Google could consider implementing tiered perks, such as 100 GB for Level 6 and above, or 1 TB for Level 9 and above. They could also tie storage increases directly to contributions, such as providing “1 GB for every 1,000 photo views.”
Count me in to support this—our contributions help millions every day, and perks like this would keep us going stronger!
Please guys, don’t use your own account storage for content you have added to Maps, that makes no sense at all.
Yes I would like some kind of incentive from Google of course.
While I wait for that, I learned something a long time ago after having used Google Opinion Rewards for many years and having nothing to spend the credit on. I realised I can use the Play store credit to pay for a higher storage level. I just about earn more per month from the Reward App than the cost of the 100GB level. At the end of the day, it’s only simple questions like what you get for google maps anyway.
Thank you, that’s a wonderful idea! I think about this every time I have to delete some of my photos to free up space. Often, I take several backup photos and videos of a place but end up posting only one or two of the best ones. Writing a meaningful review, especially for a restaurant, usually involves multiple photos and videos of the interior and dishes. Google really should reward active contributors with additional Google One storage.
When I ran out of space, I bought a subscription - so in a way, I’m supporting and building up Google Maps out of my own pocket. I believe Local Guides shouldn’t have to worry about how much space they have left. That freedom would allow us to be more creative and contribute even more! It would benefit both the users and Google!
