I haven’t had lots of stories (yet), but this one was funny that why I remembered it vividly
My friend and I arrived to the mountains earlier than our other friends and we decided that our mission is to find interesting places near our homestay, so once our fellows get to the place we’ll be 100% ready to prepare them a short excursion “like locals”
Our place was located literally on a side of a mountain and since we travelled without a car, going somewhere was kind of a challenge, since on our way back home a steep slope would wait for us to win over! But people of the concrete jungle (us) weren’t scared of such things! And this is like a story began!
We found out in Google Maps that there was a waterfall near our house, and it seemed to be veryyy close on the map but there were no roads leading to it. We decided that it’s a perfect adventure, I grabbed my camera and we left our warm and cosy place!
The weather was good, so I won’t add to this story a fight with a strong wind or struggling because of pouring rain, we just walked down the mountain. I decided that we can get to the waterfall if we walk along the road. My friend Roman didn’t understand why do I think so (right now I don’t understand how this idea came to my mind either), but by the time we got to the old bridge across one those beautiful rivers in the Carpathians I realized that we won’t get to the waterfall that way. Aaaand guess what? Yes, we decided to go back to our place and start over again #dedication
On our way up the mountain (read: crawling and being out of breath) we noticed a small footpath in the forest. Since it was an adventure, we couldn’t just pass it by. Five minutes later we were crossing the grove with an exciting feeling of going by a path that wasn’t drawn on a map. Here is a picture of my friend
How happy were we when we got to the small meadow with a beautiful view! Here is me being super-happy to see such a reward for going off-road!
But where is the waterfall? By Google Maps - we should be somewhere really close to the place but we couldn’t get where it is! A promising sign was a river, but it seemed to be very calm, it didn’t seem to have any signs of disturbed water!
We decided to climb down to the rocks! It was a little bit dangerous, we were catching the bushes’ branches and hoping that we won’t dive into a river while going down and we managed, yay! And then Roman pointed somewhere to the up and said: “Look!” and we SAW IT!
The goal of our adventure was there! The small beautiful waterfall was waiting for us. It’s a picture of happy Roma and a waterfall (it’s right behind him)
It was a short journey, but how proud were we to find this place without having a detailed description of how to get there! We felt like heroes! No, we were HEROES
That evening we told our friends about our discovery and all of them were super-excited to visit that place having us as guides, but the next days the weather turned out to be very bad and we weren’t able to make it there because of mud and slippery rocks, but we decided that we’ll definitely be back to check on that beautiful waterfall again all together!
Thank you for reading this small story So far this is the most interesting thing I’ve done as a Local Guide I was brave enough to go off-road to find that pin on the map and you know what? I love it!
P.S. Some more pictures from a place we stayed at
