Wat Arun (Thai: วัด อรุณ) is a Buddhist temple (wat). The name of Wat Arun was given from King Taksin who ruled Thailand in 1768. The long name of this temple is Wat Arunratchawararam Ratchaworamahavihara (วัด อรุณ ราชวราราม ราชวรมหาวิหาร). Wat Arun Ratchavararam is also called the Temple of Dawn. The name was taken from the name of the God of Dawn, Aruna. Wat Arun is located in the Bangkok Yai district, Bangkok, Thailand, in the west part of the upper of Chao Phraya river.

Wat Arun is also considered as one of the most famous sites in Thailand. At the highest part of the temple, there is a Thai royal crown placed by King Rama III. Raja Rama III is actually the younger brother of King Rama IV. He was considered as more able to maintain and prosper the kingdom of Thailand at that time. This made Raja Rama II (the father of Raja Rama III and Raja Rama IV) to gave the throne to Raja Rama III. As a younger brother who also loved his brother, Raja Rama III promised to return the throne to his brother after he completed his duties. He fulfilled his promise and gave the throne to Raja Rama IV. He placed the crown on top of Wat Arun as a symbol that he had kept the promise he made.
