One of the most relaxing activities downtown Budapest is walking up to Buda Castle during sunset.
If you are in town check out the time for sunset, grab some great street food or a good coffee on Pest side around St. Stephen’s Basilica for example then start approaching Chain Bridge through Zrínyi Street. On Széchenyi István Square you can either choose to go on the left or the right side of the bridge, personally I prefer the right side from where you can get some spectacular view of the building of the Parliament too. Whichever you take please follow the traffic regulations and use pedestrian crossings or stairs under the bridge to cross any street as jaywalking is not only dangerous but makes the life more difficult for local drivers unnecessarily.
Take your time, look around but prepare for a somewhat crowded bridge with many tourists. Also the weather can be quite windy so don’t forget to prepare with a scarf and/or a hat in case it’s a colder season.
When you arrive to Clark Adam Square you can again have multiple options. If you are not really into climbing I would recommend to take the Buda Castle Hill Funicular on the left of the Buda Castle Tunnel but this article is about walking so let’s get back to that
Right next to the funicular station on the left you can see the way up to the Castle and this is the easier one with no stairs at all. I usually choose this one as I enjoy pleasant walks more then climbing stairs. However if you love smaller challenges I recommend to take any path starting on the right side of the tunnel where you can have your stairs.
Once you are up in the Castle I leave it up to you if you want to take a look around or you want to sit down for adapting the view for a while. Anyhow, you can spend time up there alone with your thoughts (or with others too of course) having a very refreshing experience in a beautiful environment. Enjoy!
