There is nothing more exciting when I am taking a video of the neighborhood park or taking a moment to write a couple sentences about a new dining experience and someone asks me “why are you always documenting your everyday life? And then I get to respond that I am a Local Guide!
When I think about what being a Local Guide means to me it is sometimes tough to know where to begin, however my mind always goes back to two elements, one contributing to the digital world, and two what entity brought us together. That entity alone has come to be regarded as a leader in so many multimedia facets of unmatched excellence that it is probably best to simple start there; GOOGLE!
Google It! Google Me! and on a personal level Google Map it!
At Level 9, I find so much joy in seeing a community be brought to life by all the neighbors that decided to share their adventures with others and become a Local Guide! I love seeing their journeys and experiences come to life on Google Maps and The Local Guides Online Community as everyone’s contributions continue to build the digital world one photo, video, or review at a time. No two journeys are alike which is why upon receiving my socks I decided to create my own.
After Sometime in the program it’s great to see so many badges obtained, but for me being a Local Guide goes so much more beyond that. I see photos I have taken of famous landmarks viewed by thousands of people, that local pizzeria I added come to life and take on a Google Maps identity of its own, a review I wrote making other Local Guides or even a visitor want to give a place a try themselves, or even a video of the local wildlife on a nature trail giving the location a new voice it never had before.
When I was given my socks I wasn’t given just something to put on my feet. These socks came with pride, spirit, and even a strong sense of motivation to start a Journey, an ever changing journey that continues to this day and the next! #LocalGuides
