That was the first time I participated in voluntary activities. I followed it because at first, I wanted to get a new experience.
On the other hand, I also want to make new friends and knowledge about education in remote villages.
I followed this program alone by myself, I didn’t know everyone there, but in the end, I’ve got many friends.
*The program called, Voluntrip by Dompet Dhuafa.
-1 day before the program started :
We spent time on the trip for 6 hours by mlitary truck, the participants reach about 60 people with different background.
-Day 1
In the first day, we teached the children through many ways : playing games, cooking, archery, dental counseling, and making paper art. The goal is the children can get new knowledge with fun activities.
We also learned how to collaborate as a good team, because children sometimes had their own way to express something.
-Day 2
The next day was for traveling activity, we enjoyed the Sidamanik Garden Tea, furthermore, swimming in the Sidamanik Bathing Pool. Then, we came back to Medan in the evening.
So, what I really want to inform you guys, as a young man, please get out of your comfort zone, because you will find something new and challenging as the result. Remember, your experience is much more valuable than any stuff you might have.
So, find your own interesting experience as many as you can, that you will tell your children in the future.
Try to be someone who is useful to others, so you will know why you are still living right now.
Be thankful and never complain.
FYI, in Indonesia there are another program similar, such as 1000 Guru.
There are many things you can do instead of just staying at home, or just staring at your smartphone’s screen every time. Take some walks, visit new place, and be a volunteer!
