I’m visiting my daughter over the summer in Los Angeles since she decided not to come home over break. She an alumni of the California State Summer School of the Arts program. For the first day of summer session, they host an event to get some of the alumnis together. This year, they held it at the Sony Pictures Studio which included a special tour hosted by their VP of post production for sound. This was exciting for my daughter as she’s looking into going to sound work after her stint at the University.
She had explained so many things of what she does at the University, but much of it went over my head. This tour gave me more information and I actually knew some of the stuff he talked about. Afterwards we got to watch the new Spideman movie Far From Home in their mixing room theater, surrounded by 48 speakers.
Wow that looks like it was a lot of fun! I love the Ghostbusters car. What was your favorite thing about exploring Sony Pictures Studio? Was it your first time visiting LA?
I haven’t been there yet, but it’s definitely on my list. Thanks for sharing these photos!
Have you ever walked through stacked up theatre/movie sets @Twister411 ? It’s kinda funny when the four walls of a room that you recognise are stacked together like a big movie flat pack.
@DanniS this is my first time visiting Sony Picture Studios, but I’ve been going to Los Angeles for visits often. The tour was a special tour of just the sound stages which are normally in use Mondays - Fridays. The way our guide Tom explained what they do there really made me understand things my daughter was had explained to me about what she does at school. I would really like to book a regular tour to see the rest of the studio lot.
@PaulPavlinovich I haven’t been in an actual set yet. The most I’ve been is when my daughter is making shorts and sit there watching their stuff. She’s brought me to other cool places for events she goes to. One was the campus of Pixar to eat the movie Coco before it was released.
Through recognition of my free work on no/low budget films I’ve been lucky enough to play on some bigger productions. Nothing huge, just bigger :). Those sets are fun @Twister411
Glad you’re able to spend time with your daughter sharing an experience like that.
