First off, a disclaimer. I am not a vegetarian but a lot of my friends are. So although I’m not an authority on vegetarian places, i’ve been to many vegetarian places that still showcase Singapore to travellers.
Okay with that out of the way, let me give some background.
Singapore has known as a food paradise but the reason why it developed this reputation is distilled into one single reason. The diversity of cultures and races that makes up Singapore.
So even though Singapore is famous for its chicken rice or Chilli crab dishes, you can still enjoy Singapore’s diverse culture but still be a vegetarian in Singapore! ( PS Not all places will be Indian restaurants FYI)
Here’s a few places I recommend.
If you’re a tourist and in Singapore’s Chinatown, visit Eight Treasures at the second floor of 282A South Bridge Road. Delicious Chinese food done in the typical Chinese restaurant style, the dishes are delicious and the sauces are incredible. Chinese vegetarian dishes however are heavy on beancurds and soy beans however.
Just below Eight treasures at the same address is an incredible salad cafe called Well Dressed Salad bar. As you can imagine they provide vegan and vegetarian options. Portions are large and food is amazing. The secret to well dressed salad bar are their cakes. Their cakes are vegan and delicious to boot! Well addressed salar bar is owner by this
lesbian couple who are very warm and super friendly.
As you make your way towards the Singapore Art Museum and art district of Bencoolen street, you can stop by Sunshine plaza ( a shopping mall) and eat at Teng Bespoke at 91 Bencoolen st., #01-50. There you can have vegetarian Japanese dishes served in those cute Japanese bento boxes as value meals.
Finally as you make your end of the day at Little India, explore the temples, spices and graffiti art work of Little India, stop by and fill your belly at Fifth season Tangra Chinese restaurant at 28 Race Course road. Fifth season Tangra is not your typical Chinese restaurant. Instead it is Indian chefs interpretation of what they think Chinese food is.
So instead of sweet and sour chicken, you will find vegetarian balls covered with tangy manchurian sauces or crispy cauliflowers covered with ginger and garlic. Definitely worth the visit to try out the unique dishes in Singapore!
