- Sun Voyager Sculpture – Free Located on the waterfront, this sculpture is free to visit and grab a beautiful snapshot of.
- Botanical Gardens – Free If you’re looking to see some of the local flora and fauna, including some really neat artwork, stop off at the gardens and spend a few hours exploring. It’s very relaxing!
- Harpa Music Hall – Free (Tours cost extra) Just going inside the hall and seeing the magnificent ceiling is worth it. Visit the stores inside, or pay a little extra for a concert or tour.
- Grotta Lighthouse – Free It’s a bit of a coastal walk to get there (takes about 1.5 hours), but it’s a very nice walk on a well taken care of path. Just make sure to check out the times you will arrive as the lighthouse closes down during high tide or breeding seasons.
- Hallgrímskirkja – Free inside ($10 USD approx. to go up the tower). Just stepping into this church is stunning, but the views from the tower for an extra $10 is more than worth it.
- Vesturbæjarlaug Geothermal Swimming Pool (approx… $10 per person). A short walk from the city center, and the local’s favourite pool, it boasts a sauna, swimming pool, hot tubs and slide for added entertainment. Spend the entire afternoon there if you can! Way more affordable than visiting the Blue Lagoonm, which costs around $190 per person with travel. Just walking around the city also exposes you to so much artwork and culture!
@Mesmerdian what a nice experience. I would love to visit this place in future. I guess i’m fascinated about hallgrimskirkja. Is like the building is 10 times the height of an ordinary human being. This is the beauty of Architecture. Thanks for sharing.
@Mesmerdian Thank you for sharing the tips with us. I looked more about Grotta Lighthouse on Google Maps. It is beautiful and it seems peaceful. Have you been there?
Yes. I’ve been to all the places I mentioned. I love the Grotto lighthouse. The walk itself to the lighthouse is wonderful too!
Hi @Mesmerdian ,
Thanks for sharing your post. What made you go to Reykjavik? It’s such an usual place to visit, I think, that not many people think of it. I’ve never been there, but I’m sure it’s quite unique and interesting to see.
It just seems a bit cold to me and being from Finland, I always look for destinations that are warmer Did you enjoy the city? How long did you stay there?
We found the temperature was about 14 Celsius, which, being from Canada, felt like a nice spring day. We stayed for a week at a lovely AirBnB. We chose Reykavik as we had a 2 year old with us, so we didn’t want too long of a plane ride but also wanted to see a Scandanavian-like country.
Thanks for sharing these options @Mesmerdian ! This might sound silly but after watching some online Series I feel like I need to visit Island! Being from a tropical area I don’t think I’ll find the weather as pleasant as you did but still want to go sorry if this is an obvious question but it’s easy to find people who speak English there, right?
Very easy. English is a second language there I think.
