Visiting Lyon, France in the Summer

Many individuals travel to France mainly to go to Paris, but we tend to forget about the beautiful other places that exist in the country. In Summer 2019, I visited Lyon with my family for about 3 days and had a marvelous time. Lyon is located in east-central France; the third largest city in France, after Paris and Marseille. The city is known for its historical and architectural landmarks, as well as its UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a significant area for the production and weaving of silk. Over time, it has developed a reputation as the capital of gastronomy in France. If you’re planning on visiting, consider eating at the following place: Le Bouchon Des Carnivores and Restaurant Des Iles. Both places are fairly close to each other, right by a shopping strip so you can kill two birds in one stone!

One thing, I did not expect over the summer was the heat! It was about 90 degrees the whole time I was there, which was very surprising therefore I’d suggest packing shorts, light shirts/tops and sandals. In most pharmacies they sell " water spray": chilled water in a can. I would highly recommend buying a few of them, or else you’ll feel extremely dehydrated.

As far as activities, there is a lot of sightseeing to do. I did a tour on bus that took my family and I all over the town for about €25. The bus stops every 5-10 minutes, you can explore as long as you want, then return to that same spot to get picked up. Whatever you do, do NOT lose your ticket because that is the only way the driver can verify your purchase.

Here’s a list of food places that I’ve enjoyed:

  • Le Bouchon Des Carnivores

  • Restaurant Des Iles

-Le Ti’Punch de la Réunion

  • Le Desjeuneur

Art places:

  • Confluence Museum

  • Musée des Tissus et des Arts Décoratifs

  • Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon

  • Lyon Cathedral

-La Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière

  • Also, you’ll come across a few street performances

Hey @Explore_with_G ,

Thank you for sharing your trip to Lyon, it sure looks like you had a great time.

I see that @Julien44 had provided some information to help you start off.

Le Desjeuneur is well-known among tourists and locals and is also a favorite of mine as well, the food certainly worth the scooter trip along the river. :] Did you had brunch there or you went later in the day?
