Visiting Canberra's lakes

Canberra is the home of 3 lakes and many ponds and wetlands. Lake Burley Griffin (named after the town planner that designed Canberra), is the main lake and beautiful from any view point. I’ve taken many photos of the lake over the years, as some days it is just breathtaking.

Around the lake there are areas for picnics, barbeques, gym equipment, children’s parks, boat ramps and many kilometres of walking/bike riding paths. There are also areas around the lake that have cafes and restaurants, so you can sit and enjoy the views with a meal. Boats can be hired for scenic trips on the lake. We’ve taken the children out on the lake for a picnic and it was perfect!

If you enjoy photography, visiting the lake at sunset is something you should try and do. No matter the day, you’ll find something beautiful to capture.

Thank you @Robert24 for your comment! This lake is actually in the middle of our city, but it always seems peaceful because there are so many trees. You can actually look down on Canberra from a lookout - and you see mostly trees! Our trees are all protected, and if one is removed another one is planted almost straight away.

@SilvyC Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed the photos. So many people in Canberra have been walking around the lake for exercise (as we are allowed to do outdoor exercise if we are not in groups) that they have made the pedestrian traffic ‘one way’ around the lake so that people can keep distance.

Hello @Istillwannahavefun ,

Thank you for sharing these amazing photos with us, so green and peaceful!

It seems that there is almost none of the pictures! How did you manage to do that?

The quality of the photos looks amazing, what camera did you use?

Thank you @vijayparadkar The views from the top of the arboretum are wonderful. It is currently closed I think, but when things re-open I will go and take some photos of the other sides, as you can see 360 degrees around as it is the top of a hill.

Thank you @BorrisS Are you saying how is there no-one in the photos? I like to take photos of scenes that look peaceful and like you have the whole place to yourself - so I often wait until there is no one in the frame, or pick times of days that are quieter. I mostly used a Canon DSLR with a few different lenses, but since I was injured I can’t hold up my camera with one arm, so I use Google Pixel 3A now which produces amazing quality shots. I am thinking I may get a tripod so I can use my digital camera again.
