Visiting Angkor Thom for 1.5days [temple tour]

Visiting Angkor Thom in 1.5 days is such a rush. In this one day and half, I managed to visit 5 temples: Takeo temple, Baksey Chamkrong temple, Taprum known as Tom Raiders, Banteay Kdei and Angkor Wat temple.

During lock down time, these temples are less crowded and so the best time for photography tour.

In one and half days, you can do as many temples as 5 in the Angkor Thom circle.

  • Try early at Takeo temple for the clouds on stairway to heaven - usually very quiet.
  • As soon as you get to Taprum early in the morning, you get the entire temple for yourself, especially post for pictures with giant trees over the temple. Rest around this area for lunch.

  • Take afternoon tour to nearby Banteay Kdei temple but it is the mini version of Taprum, without trees on top - usually quiet. Another choice: visiting Preah Khan temple!
  • Wrap off temple tour for the day, take a quick tour to another side of the city at Phnom krom for sunset or eco-resort.
  • Next day: early morning to Sunrise at Angkor Wat then doing the grand tour here for 3hours to half day - Please bear in mind that the top tower of Angkor temple does not allow visitors on Holy Day (Buddhist holy day) because it is supposed to be the worship day.

However, please do not forget about Phare Circus performance at night, as well as spare some time for the floating village tour outside of Siem Reap town, either Kompong Pluk or Kompong Khleang.

Happy touring!

  • @Julien44 great photos you have shared here. Temples are erosion through times, weather and age. Some statues and stones lost their shapes because of the rain and hot weather. This year, many things happening. Bayon’s top tower were closed for renovation. Some big trees at Taprum temple were cut because they felt down during the big rain.*
