Bangladesh does have a history of kingdoms and palaces but unlike those, you can find in the UK or European countries. Before the British ruling period, Bangladesh was ruled by several Jamidar (country lord). Community treated them like a king of that area. During the British ruling period they continue to hold that power of ruling but under the supervision of the British Empire. This week I have visited one of the palaces of a Jamidar in Natore district. This royal palace was built in 1734 by Raja Doyaram. Hundreds of years it has been used as a palace for his family but now it has been recognized as a tourist spot and official living place for President and Prime minister during their visit in the northern part of the country.
The main building is surrounded by a trench full of water. Now it turned into a lake. It enhanced the beauty of that place. The main palace building for the king is separated from the prince palace, queen’s palace, and one for grandmother. Queen’s palace is accompanied by a flower garden, a mini zoo and lovely seating arrangements by the lake. Most special thing I found there in the compound are some mango trees which are very old with very wide stems. Those are probably aged more than a hundred years. There is also a museum where you can see those historic things used by the royal family.
Ways to travel there
You can travel there by bus or train. Bus from Dhaka will cost around 400 BDT (non-ac) to 900 BDT (AC). Train will be the better means of travel to Natore. Costing and
comfort will vary with the train you will get. This place is not too far from the bus and train station only half hour journey. Entry ticket for each person is just 20 taka.
Those monuments are now inside the museum and aren’t allowed to take pictures there. So couldn’t take snaps. But when you will visit there you can find details of the history of the royal family written on the board. It is more than any wiki page and close to a book chapter. But they moved some of the artifacts in the Dhaka museum in recent times. Give a try you will love it @SaifIS
The history that you provided about the palace is really very interesting! It’s also very nice that you added also tips how to travel there. The palace looks really very huge and the lake that surrounds the palace is a very nice place to relax there.
I am sure the other Local Guides will enjoy your post!
Great post and thank you for the tag. This place looks like those perfect weekend getaways when you want to escape from the crowds in the city.
Can one eat a fruit from the mango trees and what kind of animals do they keep in the mini zoo? Did you take any photos there as well? Please share them here.
It is really nice place to relax for an evening. The museum has a good amount of history lessons also but few of the original pieces are missing now. Above all it is a very large place as it was a palace built for the king.
Hope our travellers from local guide will visit there to enjoy the beauty and history
Thanks, @MoniDi . I really appreciate your support.
No people from outside cannot take any fruits from here. Though the place have many variety of Mango trees. The northern part of Bangladesh is famous for the mangoes and taste is better than Indian and Thai variety.
The zoo is very small only have dear, parrot, peacock, money and very rare bird from Africa. But I forgot to take picture I only recorded video of the zoo.
