Visiting a fault line created by an earthquake/

While I believe that local guides are important for local information, I would also like to record a bit of information about the places I travel to.

I can easily visit large cities with good accessibility, but I cannot help but visit regional cities that are not so accessible.

I took the Tarumi Railway to Motosu City, Gifu Prefecture.

The purpose was to see the Usuzumi-zakura cherry blossoms in Neo Village , but it was still too cold and they had not yet bloomed.

There are other spots of interest as well, so I will introduce them here.

On October 28, 1891, an 8.0 magnitude earthquake centered in this area occurred.

The tremor was recorded not only in this area but also throughout Japan.

The fault line created by the earthquake has been preserved as a national natural monument.
There is nothing around it, so you can take a good look at it.

A nearby facility allows visitors to observe the details of the fault.

Along with this, it is an important facility where the conditions and testimonies of those affected are recorded.

Recently, there have been many earthquakes in and around Japan.
Visiting this facility has helped me raise my awareness of disaster prevention.

I believe that this is an area that should receive more attention in Japan.

What a fascinating post @yamamo_cchi - I love finding out about places where the forces of nature have impacted on the way mankind chooses to live - and to recognise how little control we have of them and how big their effect can be. Thanks again!

I am very happy to hear of your interest.
By leaving traces of natural disasters, we are using them for lessons learned and for academic purposes.
The faults in this area in particular are said to be of great research value.

Thanks for the comment.
All over the world, there must be many other landforms created by various natural forces besides earthquakes.
I wish I could share some of them with you!

Thanks for the comment.
It must have really surprised people at the time that the earthquake changed the terrain in such an amazing way.
Science is not as advanced as it is today.
