Memorial Trip to Adalaj Step-well #AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT.

Main Well,

Adalaj Step-well was built in A.D. 1498. (SAMVANT 1555) by Ruda Wife of Vaghela chief Virasima. This is recorded in Sanskrit inscriptions on marbles slab set into a niche in the first story on estern side.

A panel showing nine planets (NAVAGRAHAS) is found over a door in second story on eastern side of octagonal shaft.

The oblong step-well run south to north; entry to the step-well from south through stairs three side descend into a specious landing with octagonal pillars.

Use of the four corner of landing platform is a small room with original Windows among culture particular mention may be made of king seated on a stool under parasol with two chauribear thin attendance erotics change showing churning of buttermilk wherever female dancers and musician various birds and supported on eight animal like Gaja Shardula, symbolic representation mother goddess and medal medal Evans scroll motif evolving out of Kirtimukha etc. Of from the landing platform the corridor begins with gently descending staircase leading to octagonal well shaft on north.
