Online Meetup - simply join from your computer or mobile device
September 25, 2019 @ 20:00 (CEST)
Meetups are a fun way to meet other local guides in real life. But as the participants often have different interests/specialties (some focus on photography, others are more into reviews or map editing) the interaction about specfic topics often remains a bit superficial.
With Virtual Meetups we want to bring together local guides from around the globe to discuss one specific topic in greater detail in a 1 hour online session. The topic for this Virtual Meetup: Lists. What have you done with them so far? What’s your experience? What do you like/not like about them?
The Virtual Meetup will take place on Wednesday, September 25th at 8 PM CET and everyone can simply join online from the comfort of her/his home (specific instructions on how to join will be sent latest 1 week before the Meetup).
[Update 23/09/2019]
The number of local guides that have signed up for the Meetup is simply overwhelming… 63 so far, and we still have 2 days to go. Due to technical restrictions (I am using the free version of Zoom for this first Virtual Meetup, as it is really a bit of a test for me too) we will have 2 sessions of 30 minutes each. The links to join those have been sent in an announcement to the participants and the number of participants is limited to 100 (first come, first serve).
Some tech tips:
create a Zoom account in advance (https://zoom.us/) to make sure you can join right from the start
please wear a headset to avoid awkward sounds from feedback
you can also join from a mobile device by using the Zoom app (also to be downloaded in advance, of course)
As there are so many participants, and the session time is limited, there will simply be not enough time for everyone to present his/her list(s), so I propose to focus on the questions you might have about lists - with all those fellow local guides attending, it’s very likely that someone will know the answer!
Do not hesitate to add a comment here if you already want to share some of the questions you might have.
This is a brilliant idea, thank you for creating such an interesting meet-up! This is a great way to bring together Local Guides with similar interests and preferences from different countries. I wish you best of luck in that initiative!
@JanVanHaver When is the deadline to join this Virtual Meetup? 25th being Wednesday (weekday), i don’t know if I can plan in advance as 8-9pm CEST is 11:30pm to 0:30am IST where I live. So, would like to know if we can request to join at the last moment if we are awake. Thank you.
I would say: just sign up for the event to make sure you receive the messages with the details about the platform we will use. If you can’t make it in the end, that is not a big deal. As it is the 1st time we do something like this, a lot of things are not fixed at this point.
Great to hear @JaneBurunina ! Please make sure to sign up for the meetup using the RSVP link to make sure you will receive the emails containing the tech details on how to join.
@JanVanHaver Hosting a Virtual Meetup where everyone around the world can join is definitely a great idea awesomeness, well count me in! Timezone issue is a major setback to some of us tho’ but i’ll try to make it.Greetings from Jakarta.
This is a brilliant idea to share our stories regarding the Lists.
However, I just want to add a point. For those who won’t be able to attend the meetup due to different time zone, they can contribute their points on any thread. It can be this one or a new one.
Also, we can prepare a transcript of the meetup, so that who can’t attend can also benefit.
Sory @993-371-6173 I did not see you comment earlier. Sorry you missed the session. The links to join had been sent as message an hour before the event, but if you signed up last minute, you did not get that of course.
