Village life in Rajasthan

The best way to travel is to get lost in your journey. En route to Jaipur from Agra, we ran into a detour that sent us into a web of uncharted roads in Rajasthan. It was my most memorable experience in my recent trip to India.

Hi @deejiwahine ,

Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos of India. Can you please share with us your experience? How long did you travel in India and what was the most interesting thing? How did you prepare for this trip and do you have any tips for a first time traveler to India?

In addition, I’ve moved it to Travel as it fits better there.

Thanks, @DanniS ! My trip to India was primarily to attend a friend’s wedding as a bridesmaid (more posts to come!). Her cousin accompanied me and other guests (who eventually became my friends) to Agra and Jaipur. So I was there for about two weeks scuttling from Delhi to Agra to Jaipur and then back to Delhi then to Kolkata.

Everything is interesting in India!!! The people, the food, the architecture, the culture… But aside from getting lost in the Rajasthan countryside, what’s interesting is India’s ancient architecture and astronomical instruments. Also, the way they drive caught my attention. Imagine, most people there can drive without side mirrors! And, I observed, at least in Delhi, that they don’t use signal lights when swerving or changing lanes so they honk all the time. It was a jarring experience fro my friends from Europe who were so used to quiet.

My tips for first time travellers are:

  1. If you have flat plugs (as in US-type) bring adapters for round ones (German-type)

  2. If you are a woman, avoid traveling alone or walking alone at night or even during the daytime; if travelling by Metro, take the LADIES ONLY coach; use Uber so you can send your location and the driver’s details to a friend

  3. Do not drink water from the tap or service water

  4. You can have your currency exchanged at the airport, in the city center, or in tourist spots like Taj Mahal

  5. The best country to visit for vegetarians!

  6. Delhi winters can be cold, so bring your winter clothes; before flying, make sure to check weather conditions and temperature on a weather app

  7. Take care of your belongings

  8. Pack light!

@deejiwahine Thanks so much your tips and advice!

India is a place I think everyone needs to visit once in their lifetime. I’m sure it’s quite hectic there with the driving and just overall with the amount of people. Especially when you’re used to a completely different environment, but also that’s what makes it interesting to me.

Being a vegetarian, I’m so excited about it, although I’m not a big fan of the food. Your travel tips are extremely good to know, especially for women solo travelers. Thanks a lot!

I’m pretty sure an Indian wedding is quite fun and exciting! It would be great to see a post of a traditional Indian wedding?
