Vijaya Dashmi celebrations

Vijaya Dashmi is the tenth day after the nine-days Navratas celebration in September-October. It is celebrated in Hinduism as the triumph of Lord Rama over demon Ravana (belonging to a famous tale of Ramayana).

Basically, this day marks the win of truth or good over evil.

In many parts of India, effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna (brother of Ravana) and Meghnada (son of Ravana) are burnt - to celebrate this festival.

Yesterday was Dussehra and I went to watch the celebrations with my sister. Here are pictures of the effigies I was talking about.

Happy to read about the celebrations from different parts of our country. In South India Vijaya Dashami is celebrated as the victory of Goddess Chamundeswari over the buffalo demon Mahishasura.

Anyways it is finally the victory or good over evil.

Thank you @Tushar18 for this nice post.

Yes Mam @Gurukrishnapriya ,

I’ve also read about the story of killing of buffalo demon Mahishasur by Goddess Durga, which then gave her the name of Mahishasurmardini.

In my childhood, I used to read Durga Saptashati during Navratas - from where I got the information.

Thanks to you for reminding me and adding this information to the post.
