Maps does a great job of encouraging us to post photos and leave reviews by telling us how many times our contributions have been viewed. But, what about the work we do editing and correcting POIs on the Map?
Sure, getting that popup and email that your edit has been Published can give the warm and fuzzies, but don’t you wonder how much your edit has really made an impact?
I noticed something new* the other day when scrolling through my edits; VIEW COUNTS!
To view your edits on PC, open the side menu and select ‘Your Contributions’ and then the ‘Edits’ tab. On Mobile, tap on ‘Contribute’ at the bottom of the screen (Android), then ‘View Your Profile’. Scroll all the way past your photos and reviews to the bottom to find your ‘Edits’ list.
I searched through posts to see if this had been highlighted before and could only find this post from 2021 that made reference to these counts. Back then, @MortenCopenhagen & @JanVanHaver seemed intrigued by this phenomenon. On the Idea Exchange (rip), @MashaPS suggested that a total edit view count did not get implemented, but has the individual edit count become implemented more widely over the past 2 years and I just missed it? *Am I sharing old news?
Either way, I am stoked to see that my edits are being seen and hopefully helping the businesses & POIs I help correct. From fixing names (there’s guidelines, business owners!), adding websites, to even fixing the location on the map; what we do is for our Local Communities and it’s nice to know the impact.
Go check your edits! Are you seeing these numbers? Do you have any BIG views to share? Does anyone have the history of this update to fill in the gaps?
Hallo an alle, Ich bin etwas verwundert weil ich diese Änderungsliste schon sehr lange habe und ich diese sehr gut und hilfreich finde. Seit kurzer Zeit wurde diese noch detaillierter.
@JustJake not sure when I started seeing this for the first time, but it’s been there for quite a while - non consistently, though (and in the new style now not for all my approved edits).
I also receive emails from time to time emails pointing out the number of views of some specific edit (which then tends to be one with a high number of edits). I don’t store those mails, though, so I can’t show any example.
@JanVanHaver It’s interesting that you’ve had it for a while. Maybe the update is just moving west. I also get the emails randomly. I figured those were the gentle nudge to get back to doing edits!
I also see that the counts are not consistent. Some of the places I’ve added to the map do not have counts, which is really disappointing. Maybe that information is reserved for the business owner when they register with Google?
@Annaelisa Thank you for jumping in and letting me know. There’s always the risk when discovering something new that I had just overlooked it before. But it sounds like this feature has been limited in release.
Can you show an example of the more detailed information you see in the edit?
