View counts frozen

Everytime I have posted a picture, a new location or a review my view count only stays active between 24 hours to a couple of days then it never updates again, it has been like this for a few years and is starting to be really infuriating. I have read how other people have this but to a lesser extent with most users saying it is only temporary but this is a permeant issue for me. It’s really putting me off wanting to help google. I know for a fact the several of the last photos I added which capped at 80-1932 views would in fact be more than a 5-8 digit long view counts because they were hard to find, previously unlisted, in demand locations and photos thereof. One of those locations was the largest hidden unlisted motorcycle parking areas of my city, a city with insufficient motorcycle parking which has been shown as a highly searched item in both google and Google maps. It wouldn’t be surprising to me if the view count for all of the combined photos of my last batch I took of a new location I added was more several million views. Yet the combined total you show me (because it’s stuck) wouldn’t be more than a few hundred. In the famous words of an unhinged scientologist nutcase…Please … “Help me… Help you!”

(P.s. one of the staff at Google maps support messaged me and told me to post this on the to do forum under this url and" tag in an admin" but this doesn’t look like a support page and I don’t see how you can tag people into these posts.)

Hello @The_Mixologist

I find that you have 3.2 million views with only 482 photos. That’s substantial.

Considering the total count of 517 photos, that amounts to 6214 views on average. That’s reasonable.

The highest viewed one displays a count of 0.53 million.

Nevertheless, here is some explanation of the phenomenon observed by you.

  1. When we post a photo that remains on the top in the list of latest, for some days.
Any visitor to that POI goes through the top ten or twenty photos at most & then that keeps on collecting views.

I posted a photo of the Death Valley CA & then that collected 3 K view in two days. Subsequently, the count has not gone beyond 4 K even after four months.

  1. The picture may also appear in explore nearby - recent photos. That’s another source to collect the views independent of the connected POI.
Later on, any photo stops collecting views in large amount, unless that is featured.

  2. The AI selects featured photos on the merit.
A featured one then continues to grab views.

  3. If the POI is not that popular, that may not attract any visitor.

  4. However, if any pic is non conforming to the guidelines, or someone flags that as objectionable, that becomes invisible to the public & then stops collecting further views. I find twenty five photos from your contributions are now private.

Hello,

I am having the issue with novice photographer badge, my total view count is around 425,000 (under sort by most viewed) and the slowly updating, sort by newest section is on around 210,000. However, the badges aren’t updating at all.

The novice photographer badge is stuck at around 15,887 views and hasn’t updated for around a week+

I have cleared cache etc. and nothing has changed.

Is there any fix for this? Thank you in advance for your response.
