I recently posted a few pictures of a restaurant on Google maps as a local guide. But after I posted it, it doesn’t show when I uploaded the photo or the view count. It says on my timeline that I have uploaded photos. I can’t delete those photos either, the option is not there. When I looked at my other photos, I saw this happening with other pictures that i had posted, except they used to have a view count earlier.
@duxo are you sure to be logged into Google Maps with the same profile that you used to post the pictures?
Android allows you to have multiple Google profiles and you can switch between those. Specially if the profile images are very similar or even the same, it can be difficult to recognize at a glance, which profile is logged in.
In the past I did run into that trap too.
@WilfriedB I only have one account on my phone, and I posted from that account. I’ve been posting images on maps for a few months now, and this is the first time that this has happened.
The symptoms you described can almost only be explained by you not being logged in. or temporarily being logged out by mistake.
Please try the following:
-
Open Google Maps
-
Take a screenshot of your Contribution stats page
-
Check again if you can see the number of views on your Photo Contribution list. If not, please share a fresh screenshot + the screenshot of your contribution page.
All the best
Morten
@MortenCopenhagen thank you for reaching out, here are fresh screenshots of the contributions page and and photo contributions list
If nothing can be done about this, should I upload the photos again after making sure I’m logged in or are they visible to the people? Because as I said, some pictures that had views before have also lost their view count and when they were posted
Hello @duxo
Initially, I understood (and possibly @MortenCopenhagen too) this applied to all of your pictures. Since there are only some of your photos hidden, it seems to be a result of the AI driven SPAM protection. Therefore “upload the photos again” would not solve it, but might make matters worse, because repeated uploading of the same images can be interpreted as spamming.
If the photos were attached to a review, the entire review would be hidden either because of problems in the text or by one or more photos not following the rules. In that case, I would remove all photos from the review (by editing the review) and watch, if the review will be published.
This starts looking like a bug.
Please add a screenshot of your contribution stats page. It looks like this:
Also, please add version numbers for your operating system and the Maps app on your device.
Cheers
Morten
@MortenCopenhagen I’m sorry for the misunderstanding, here’s the screenshot of my contribution stats page
My phone is currently operating on Android 13, while my maps is on version 11.106.0503
Also sorry if the image is compressed, it’s compressing the image severely when I upload
@WilfriedB okay, I’ll refrain from posting those pictures again
Thanks for the latest screenshot, @duxo
I can easily see the details and confirm that you are logged in with the correct account.
Let me tag @DeniGu for a check. I believe @duxo is experiencing a bug since it is not possible to see the individual photo views while ligger in as @duxo while I can see them:
Could Clear Cache or reinstall possibly solve this, please help out here, Deni.
Maybe the low number of reviews could play a role?
Cheers
Morten
@MortenCopenhagen I have tried clearing the app cache, if push comes to shove, I’ll delete and reinstall the app as well.
Hi @duxo ,
It looks like your photos haven’t been published publicly on Google Maps. This means that you can see them in your profile but they aren’t visible to others on the business’s listing and as a result, the photos don’t get views.
Please feel free to fill out this form so the team can look into your contributions and reinstate any images that follow the Maps policies. Please note that this could take some time.
Still, I will forward this case internally to check if not displaying a timestamp and views is the expected behavior.
Thank you for the tag, @MortenCopenhagen !
Hi @DeniGu
In one of my replies above you can see my screen shot of his photos with views for each of them. So I doubt his photos are hidden.
Cheers
Morten
Hi @MortenCopenhagen ,
Not all the photos have been impacted. The images in your screenshot are uploaded to a different business than the ones in @duxo 's screenshot from the main post. Most of the photos in their screenshot were added to a place called “By The Bae,” while the photos in your screenshot were added to “Tanatan Juhu.”
Sorry, I thought the problem was that all of his individual photos were not showing views. My bad.
Cheers
Morten
All good, @MortenCopenhagen . There was a bit of a misunderstanding at the beginning, but I appreciate you and @WilfriedB making clarifications and jumping in to offer help!
@DeniGu thank you for helping me out, I have filled out the form. Regarding the Maps policies, I have clicked all the photos myself and I have made sure that they are appropriate and not repetitive. I’ll wait it out till the issue is investigated.
@DeniGu just wanted to update that the views have started to show on most of the photos that had the problem. Thank you for helping me out, and thank you to @MortenCopenhagen and @WilfriedB too!
This problem seems to be recurring or ongoing @MortenCopenhagen . Photos I’ve uploaded in the last few gays do not show any views. They don’t appear to be “hidden photos” as I can see them when viewed from an incognito browser window. Is there any solution for this @DeniGu ?
Something similar has happened to me recently as well, some of the pictures that I’ve posted are behaving like this, while some pictures just don’t open up when I open my profile on a browser. The common thing among all is that none of them are showing any views or showing when they were posted. Some pictures that behave like this that I posted in the past show views on the browser, but not on my phone. But this time around, they don’t show views anywhere.
