I live in one of Mexico’s most delicious cities and there’s a lot of people that doesn’t know that. As a proud jarocho, I feel I have a responsibility to tell everyone how amazing our food is.
Every day starts with great coffee and masa (which is a maize flour dough) that is made into delicious picadas, our signature dish! which kind of look like a mini pizza but it can be made with any kind of salsa you like, served with fresh chopped onions, fresco cheese and any topping you want; like chorizo, scrambled eggs, bacon, beans and anything you imagine!
As the day goes by, a sea food is everywhere, and you can enjoy all of them in unique and yummy cocktails made with shrimp, oysters, crab with olive oil, chopped onions and cilantro with something secret that everyone that made this specialty has in it recipe, (some of them use urchin juice and orange soda) that’s the magic of every place.
Now the sun is going down and the heat is going away, so we are ready for more masa
We love eating it by night too, it’s more often to be made in empanadas filled with cheese, beef or “red” chicken which is a tomatoey sauce juicy chicken, once they are fried up it is served with fine chopped lettuce, fresco cheese, sour cream and your favorite salsa.
Ready to drink something? We have our super strong toritos, a cane alcohol and fruit based liquor, served in a topped ice glass in flavors not other place have like soursop, mamey, coconut and nanche, a type of meaty yellow mini coconut that smells a lot and taste like nothing else.
