Various Flowers

Hibiscus is a very familiar and popular flower in our country and it is seen in almost every part of the country. This flower has so many variants in terms of colour. It has some medicinal power. We called it Jaba locally.

Zinnia flowers are popular garden flowers. This flower is more visible in summer. This flowering plant ranges from the southwestern United States to South America, including Mexico. These flowers are of different colours. I don’t know its name locally. This flowering plant can be seen here in various parks, rooftops in houses, balconies or office buildings. I picked it up from the entrance of my office building.

Calendula usually has bright yellow and orange flowers. It is variously known to be used for medicinal and culinary purposes and is probably native to southern Europe. Calendula came to Bangladesh a long time ago. This flower can be seen in different places in cities and villages. Now it is cultivated commercially. It is mainly cultivated commercially in the northern region of the country and Jessore. I took it from a flower shop in Khilgaon, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Chrysanthemum is a well-known flower. We all know more or less. It is cultivated in almost all parts of Bangladesh. It can be seen in gardens, roofs or balconies. I have also seen this flowering tree in the village. There are many varieties of chrysanthemums and can be seen in different colours. It is originally Asian and the centre of diversity of this flower is China and Japan. We Bangladeshi called it “Chandra Mollika”. I picked it up from the entrance of my office building.

China Pink is one of the most beautiful and colourful flowers in the garden. Dianthus chinensis is actually the species name of the flower. This flowering plant is native to Asia and Europe. I picked it up from the entrance of my office building too. Flowers are seen in many colours like red, purple, white, pink, purple, mixed etc. This flower has 5-7 petals. Not much smell.

Dahlia is one of the most popular flowers in Bangladesh. Dahlia is one of the winter flowers. The Dahlia flower is very popular among all for its beautiful and colourful petals. In Bangladesh, we also locally it’s called “Dahlia ”. Dahlia is a well-known flower around the world, this flower is widely cultivated in Bangladesh either commercially or personally. Dahlia blooms in red, white, yellow, pink, purple, purple mixed red, and different colours. Dahlia is originally from Mexico. I also took it from my office entrance.

Earlier there was a lot of Tuberose in the country, now it may be less and that’s why the Gladiolus flower has become popular in our country. Along with other flowers, this flower is being cultivated commercially. The attractive structure of gladiolus flowers is very popular. Commercial cultivation of gladiolus flowers is very profitable as the market demand is high. Cultivation of gladiolus flowers in a home rooftop garden is very easy. Different colours of gladiolus are available in our country. This flower is found in Asia, Mediterranean Europe, South Africa and tropical Africa. Commercial cultivation is done regularly in Jessore, Jhenaidah, Rajshahi and different parts of Bangladesh. I took it from a flower shop near Baily Road, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Gypsy has beautiful white flowers on beautiful plants with finely textured leaves. It is usually a winter flower. This flower blooms from November to February. Seedlings can be planted in your garden, roof, tub, lawn. Gypsy White adds a romantic touch to any garden. This breed has multiple uses. It mixes with different flowers to make beautiful flower baskets which are very attractive to look at. I took it from a flower shop near Baily Road, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Ageratina or mistflower is a species of flowering plant from Mexico. The species is widespread in Cuba, Jamaica and other parts of the Caribbean. But in our country, these plants are found across ponds or in thickets. It is especially common in rural areas. But don’t know their local name. I took this photo from Pubail, Gazipur, Bangladesh.

Petunia flowers look very beautiful. Not our country’s flower but it is very popular here too. Petunia is used as an ornamental plant in the garden or any container. The eye-catching colour and beauty of this flower make everyone crazy. Petunia flowers come in different colours like white, pink, red, yellow, purple etc. Currently, it is being regularly cultivated in our country. Petunia is a very suitable flower for those who like to garden on the roof or who want to decorate the front yard with flowers. This flower is very similar to the Surfinia flower although I don’t know if the two are the same. I picked it up from the entrance of my office building.

Rose is the most popular flower in Bangladesh. It is equally popular among all age groups. Flowers are loved by everyone as the smell of flowers is glamorous! One of the main characteristics of the rose plant is that it is very much thorny. You must be careful when plucking flowers. Red, yellow, purple, blue, black, white, pink and different types of roses are available in Bangladesh. There are probably many species of roses found all over the world. I have also heard that roses are also eaten by many. Rose is currently being cultivated commercially in different districts in Bangladesh. Roses are being cultivated in Birulia of Savar, Jessore of Khulna and different districts of the country. I took it from a flower shop near Baily Road, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Marigolds are mildly fragrant flowers found all over Bangladesh and are widely used for decoration. Marigolds come in many varieties and colours. These flowers are usually bright yellow and dark brown. Generally, it is a winter flower but nowadays it is cultivated in summer and monsoon also. Apart from beautifying the garden, its extensive use in various festivals, worship and decoration has given the flower a different dimension. Especially in Bangladesh, on International Mother Language Day, tributes are widely paid with various Tora (bouquets) made of these flowers at the Shaheed Minar. Locally we call it the ‘Gada’ flower. Another flower in this picture is the Red Salvia, which looks very nice and is bushy. Generally a winter flower. This flower blooms from November to February. It is also a foreign flower. I have seen this flower in the different parks, and gardens in Dhaka city in Bangladesh. I took this photo probably at Ramna Park or near Bangla Academy in Dhaka City.

I may have got the name of the flower wrong in many cases. however, If you know then correct it.
