Short post here!
I’m a local photographer based in Singapore, and I’ve been trying out different techniques to beautify the photographs of locations that appear on Google Maps. I recently acquired a DJI Mavic Pro, and it’s really handy! On my little expeditions round Singapore, I pop the drone (which is around the size of a water bottle) into my bag wherever I go.
The perspectives that drones provide are unique, and I find that these images provide a better sense of perspective / orientation to those who are navigating using the maps. It’s a departure from the conventional style of photographs of places on the Maps, and I strongly urge more local guides to use drones (legally of course) for their local guides work!
Here are some samples of what I’ve been able to capture in Singapore with the Mavic:
Besides that, there’s a very aesthetic quality to these images! What do y’all think?

I use my Mavic Pro quite often to contribute pictures to Google Maps. I know some people would argue that you can see the same views from the satellite view, but I disagree. I use the drone to show some perspective for the business or whatever location I am shooting. I feel that showing the business in its environment gives the viewer some information that they would not get from other sources. They get to see what other businesses are around, how the business fits in the neighborhood, and even what the overall neighborhood looks like. I tried to not shooting from too far away or post shots that don’t convey information or perspective about the business. The Mavic is a great tool for that. I typically have it with me so I can launch it and grab a few shots very quickly and easily.
Also many of my drone shots tend to get high view counts. My theory on that is that as people are swiping through pictures of a place they are planning to go, the drone shots stand out from the other posted pictures. There are some venues that a 360 Pano shot from above offers a view and information that just isn’t available anywhere else. For example, I have taken a few 360 photos hovering inside a stadium, a racetrack, or other facilities. For somebody planning their first trip to one of these facilities, that really allows them to see what the facility is actually like before they get there.
By the way, I did enjoy the pictures that you posted here. Nice job.

I agree with you! The uniqueness of each shot has the tendency to drive more views. Thank you!
