Users rely on Maps' informations

… and if that’s not working they blame any company for it without knowing that Maps is vastly a big volunteers’ project and contributing to it is a tricky task indeed.

This example shows a carsharing spot and the all the single locations are not GPS-proof.

Hi @makky

Are you aware that some companies upload their places to Google Maps from a spreadsheet? And this data overwrites what ever changes local guides might get approved next time the spreadsheet is uploaded?

That might be what you are experiencing.

But please be a bit more precise on what your problem is.

Cheers

it’s not my problem but the user’s one, the screenshot shows it: not where Google says it is

and these places are not company-claimed, so your suggestion may not be matching (“upoloading spreadsheat”)

Appreciate your problem @makky

The Places of interest (POI) creation in Maps is mainly a crowd-sourced activity.
Next, not only an LG but also anyone with a valid Google account can do so. That creates some trouble when a novice creates a place. That’s why LG’s community makes a constant effort to suggest edits & correct such inadvertent errors.

Further, in any multi-storied car parking, it’s impossible to get correct navigation inside & one has to rely on signage.
Here, the navigation should terminate at the entry point of the car park & the marker should be displaced so.
Whenever I discover any such error, I suggest an edit at that moment and on the spot, & the success rate is usually high.

Further, if the internal signage is inadequate, you have to highlight that to the administrators of the parking lot for necessary changes.

Did you already try to move the pin to the entrance as suggested by @C_T ?

Also, it would be really helpful if you would use the tagging tool when replying to someone here on Connect. Type @ followed by the username. Type slowly. Then we get an e-mail notification and you are more likely to get a prompt reply.

Cheers

The POI is indeed not claimed @makky , but it does mention the website, so an alternative approach you could take is send that screenshot also to the company, which could serve a double goal:

  1. They might fix it themselves
  2. They might realize it is important to claim their POIs

The workaround of @C_T sounds pretty smart, but this building is too big: this garage is 300m long and has several entries! So what entry is to be taken??..

In my eyes the only solid solution is still to get the right GPS-data/global coordinates of the spots and put them into Maps, but unfortunately I don’t know how to do this job…

So I’ll pick up @JanVanHaver 's suggestion and report the issue to the company.

@MortenCopenhagen Didn’t know that you are using only the email-notifications. In such a case a footer like Jan would be helpfulwink.png

Hello @makky

A navigation based on GPS never works well indoors. The app will keep on saying “Searching for GPS signal” & hence any attempt may turn futile.

Hi @C_T

Yes and No: afaik the navigation system in cars don’t rely only on GPS but on own orientation systems based on inertia etc. So in a certain range of some 100 meters the car navigation still works properly.

A mobile phone has a weaker redundancy system and gets its position also from cell antennas and Wifi-spots.
