I am writing to bring to your attention a significant issue that has been impacting a substantial number of Google Maps Local Guides, including myself, since last Wednesday.
The issue revolves around how our profiles appear on Google Maps when viewed from an incognito or alternate profile. When we look at our profiles on Google Maps, the points we’ve earned for uploading photos and videos are showing as zero, and it’s also subtracting these points from our overall level. The badges we get for sharing photos and videos aren’t showing up on the mobile app either. The profiles do not show the level badge from a place review or someone’s follow list unless we click on those profiles directly.
Another weird thing is, that if we upload a new photo or video, it seems to fix the problem temporarily, but it comes back after about a day.
This isn’t just happening to me. Lots of other Local Guides are having the same issue.
Could any Googler please look into this problem and forward it to the technical team as soon as possible (if they are not aware)? We, the Local Guides, take pride in our contributions and look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts to enhance Google Maps. Your assistance in resolving this matter is greatly appreciated.
It’s showing the correct number of images and views.
The only odd thing I have done recently is tried to replicate an error that the bots had picked up because of a 360 image which wasn’t recognised as such - the exif information was incorrect. I wanted to recreate the error and screenshot it so I could start a new thread about the bots actions. Specifically if they can automatically pickup up that you have failed to follow a guideline why don’t they tell you the guideline you have failed to follow instead of suggesting that you read the whole set of guidelines and try and figure out where you have gone wrong - that would be really helpful.
I uploaded and deleted a similar image about 20 times in the process so i am wondering whether this has caused the issue
As you can see from the profile screenshot above my images are still publicly visible.
I guess I am a little paranoid about Google taking actions without any transparency on accounts.
I am sure I am not alone.in having made mistakes in the early adventures of being a local guide.
My reputation and performance is very important to me in promoting the stuff I do with 360-degree photography - sort of like a portfolio.
I find it frustrating that you are allowed to do commercial work, but not allowed to use your business name in your profile name. Unless you had a profile from years ago in which case this is allowed.
so much of Googles rules are contradictory and illogical.
Thanks for confirming it was a glitch. The trouble with getting the status that I have, which is still quite odd to me, is that I don’t feel any real ownership yet. It’s still a little surreal and that I’m expecting there to have been an error - a bit like when a bank accidentally puts a million in your bank account through an error and then realises and takes it back.
@nigelfreeney I have the same issue, my photos and videos are showing 0 in incognito mode. Also it shows a 200K + less points in incognito mode. Other than that I have also lost Trail Blazer Maste badge which i had it for more than 3 years now and downgraded to Novice level, with 1 review of newly added place!
I hope the reassurance that @Amiran that this is happening to others, will also reassure you. It appears to be a glitch which is simply not adding the value to you incognito profile. I took the precaution of taking a screenshot of a set of active images and as you can see below the counts are still increasing as expected.
So it would appear to be an issue of the figures being presented for your account when you are not signed in. @AdamGT suggested it would be worth signing out and signing in to Connect to synchronise the count which is showing the profile as if signed out. I think this actually reflects the possibility that it is taking the figures from your public profile. I will try this advice later but I don’t expect it to change anything.
Hopefully in a couple of days it will all be back to normal!
Hey @jayasimha78 , I took the liberty of checking your profile on desktop and mobile, and it looks like the numbers are no longer 0 and the Master Trailblazer badge is back! Can you please confirm that it’s all good on your end?
Hi @nigelfreeney , I checked your profile as well, and the stats window still shows “0.” Does it appear like that for you, too?
I’ve just checked and my incognito profile is still showing zero for videos amd photos. The figures are still growing in the figures which show when I am logged in.
Thank you for bringing this up @Hope - I have just checked in incognito mode and I can indeed confirm that my count of photos and videos is showing a 0 in both cases.
Let me tag Google Moderator @DeniGu to bring this to the attention of the team.
@FalguniP@Hope a while ago, when we were in a call with other moderators we discussed the fact that on the “your contributions” overview in the mobile app, the part where all your pictures are shown was simply missing - I distinctly recall that @ErmesT mentioned this and that I noticed upon checking that it was also the case for me.
Now the situation is different: the photo section on my contributions overview in the app is still there. And it’s also weird that in incognito mode my profile says ‘0 photos’ but still my pictures are shown (including the number of pictures & the count of views)
Dear friend Connect Moderator, @FalguniP , I have 554 reviews in my profile, whereas 110 reviews are displayed in incognito mode. Could you please help?
I just told about the issue here. This is a temporary glitch. I checked some LGs and their stats came back to normal after a few hours but it seems for others it takes a bit more but again it came back to normal. So we need wait and I’m sure this will resolve soon.
Thank you for alerting the moderator, @JanVanHaver . Yes, it shows the photos/videos when we tap on “see all photos.” It is only the contribution points and badges that seem to be the issue. What’s even stranger is the Local Guide badge is not being shown at any place or list when this happens.
