Uploading vidoes in Goggle Maps/Local Guide into seperate catagory

I love being a Local Guide and contributing photos and videos, but it seems like none of the videos I take are being categorized or read as videos but rather photos. I’m not sure if anyone else has this issue. I’ve also noticed they aren’t counting toward the Director perk, so I may be uploading them incorrectly. I’ve selected add photo to the location as I don’t see an “Add video” option.

Thanks for reaching out.

You are right, videos uploaded on Google Maps are stored where your photos are. You know that on your contributions panel there are just “Photos” and “Reviews” section. This works as intended.

If you feel unsure about uploading videos on Google Maps, please follow the bellow listed tips:

How to create a video when you’re at a place:

  • Search and select a place on Google Maps
  • Scroll down and tap “Add a photo”
  • Tap “Camera” and hold the shutter button for up to 10 seconds

How to upload a video you’ve already shot:

  • Search and select a place on Google Maps
  • Scroll down and tap “Add a photo”
  • Tap “Folder” and select a video. Only the first 30 seconds of a video can be added.

Thank you for your response. I’ve uploaded videos that I’ve taken “live” by holding the button and it worked as you’ve described. I’ve shot and uploaded three videos at three separate places over the weekend (one has over 4,000 views already!) and my “Director” perk hasn’t updated (aka greyed out and showing 0/3 videos uploaded). Perhaps because of the weekend and holiday, there’s a delay, but other perks have updated instantly.

I am glad that everything is fine with uploading videos now.

As you suggested, it may take a while, until the badges to sync with your account. Keep on contributing on Google Maps to earn more badges an here on Connect to share your experience with us.
