I have recently moved house and Google Maps has the location of my new house wrong. I requested an update back on Nov 10th and have been chasing this since then with no success. We are constantly having delivery people telling us they can’t find the house as Google Maps has it in the wrong place. Can anyone suggest how I can get this remedied ? Incidentally, Bing Maps has it perfectly accurate.
The Google Support Team suggested that I posted to this site.
Towns, roads and squares are elements of the Map Layer. Local Guides cannot edit that layer. Only Google Maps team can.
What we can do, for helping the team, is to report an error on Google Maps, through the “send a feedback” that you will find scrolling down your menu on Google Maps.
Wrong Pin Location or Address is one of the issue that you can report
Unfortunately, because our house has a name but does not have a street number, it will not allow me to use this functionality. Originally, I contacted Google direct and requested the change giving them all of the relevant details. As no change was made, I have been following up with Google Support who also raised a request to get this changed. Unfortunately there is still no movement from Google on getting this fixed. They told me to post here to see if anyone could help.
Hi @jeremymbwilson , by any chance, are you talking about the labeled places on Google Maps? This kind of place is private and does not appears publicly on Maps, however, you can share the location with others. Have you tried going to your places and add the position of your home on Google Maps? To do that, please open the Google Maps App, click on the hamburger icon (three vertical lines), then “your places”), and finally home. Click on the three vertical points. So, you will be able to both search your home address or choose on the map. Once you sais that you do not have a house number, maybe the second option may work.
Thanks for your message. No, I’ve got my Home mapped correctly, thanks. It is when someone puts in my address (including my house name) - the ‘pin’ is about 300 metres up the road and we get all delivery drivers telling us that they can’t find our house.
To add to the problem, when I try and report the problem, you have to put in a street number - my house has a name but does not have a street number, so cannot use that “report a problem” process. I have to contact Google Support directly which I have done many times since Nov 10th when I originally reported this problem with still no luck getting it fixed. I talked to them again today and they have said that I need to report it again and they will also report it.
I suggest you use the “plus code” if your exact address is not yet on Maps.
You just have to follow the instructions in the guide Find and share places using plus codes and then you don’t have to do anything else to communicate it from time to time to those who have to reach you (friends, relatives, postal services or couriers).
In this way they will know how to get to your house without making mistakes.
Apologies about delay in replying - been a busy few days !
Thanks for your message. That would work for e.g. family and friends who are coming for the first time, but we tend to do a fair amount of online shopping and, of course, every Amazon driver is different, as is every Tesco/ASDA/Sainsbury, etc. driver different as well, so it would mean that I would need to inform every single delivery person where we are.
I am just looking for Google to correct their inaccuracy, but I have been trying to get this sorted since November with little luck so far ! I spoke (again) to Google Support last week and they have (again) submitted a change request on my part, so I am just keeoing fingers crossed and hoping that something might happen. It does feel like it is a bit of ‘hit and hope’ with Google, though !
In this case I can only highlight the initial suggestion of @ErmesT , that is to go directly to the specific support of Google Maps where the Product Experts (PE) have the right tools to solve your problem!
