*UPDATE*TROPICAL STORM WARNING⚠️ Along With Google SOS Alerts,I Use The Smart911 App!

The Hurricane season is from June 1st to November 30th each year. That doesn’t mean there will be a Hurricane, or even a Tropical Storm that year. But if you live in Southeast Louisiana like I do, and on the edge of water, you stay prepared. We keep a hurricane chest full of at least 3 days of canned goods. We have at least 4 gallons of bottled water, because the drinking supply could become contaminated. We have paper plates and plastic cutlery. Of course we have disinfectant products also. Additionally we always have canned food for our two cats and our dog!

I am a hurricane Katrina survivor. The horrors of that event are well documented, and as Registered Nurse I did not evacuate. We were in our home when it hit. Our home was hit by at tornado and ten of the tall pine trees on our property, uprooted and flew around before our eyes and crashed on our home. The street looked like a river. We actually were trapped inside by the trees and our truck which blocked the doors and windows. Our home was a log home. The only neighbor that didn’t evacuate cut us out with a chain saw. We still had to live without power for 6 weeks until services were restored. We were all fine except one of my cats developed pneumonia, and despite my giving her mouth to mouth CPR, she did not survive. We were quite lucky compared to most.

I no longer live in that home, but live about a mile away, on Bayou Castine. Currently the news outlets are reporting that The National Hurricane Center is predicting Tropical Storm Barry will form in the Gulf of Mexico by Thursday, strengthen to a hurricane by Saturday, and make landfall in Louisiana by Saturday. One of the new ways I stay safe and prepared is with the Smart911 App. I have prepared this video to demonstrate how in addition to watching out for Google’s SOS Alerts, you can upload your personal data to 911 services with the Smart911 App, so 911 can have this information prior to an emergency. I hope it is helpful and you enjoy it!

@_25_1 , thank you so very much for your concern and your well wishes! My family and I will be quite safe, we are well prepared. The home I live in now withstood Katrina, which was a category 5 storm, and this at best is expected to be a category 1 storm. Bless you. :heart:

@lynneannec

Thanks @KarenVChin . After Katrina many people were separated from their animals and never reunited with them. People were stranded on the roofs of their homes and rescued by other people brave enough to take their own personal boats out and search. Having an adult disabled daughter who does not know her own address or phone number, the Smart911 app, which has her photo and medical information, as well as my information, gives me peace of mind. Also having my pets microchip numbers on file with 911 is awesome.
