Hi everyone! My name is Sergi and I want introduce myself and tell you about what I do as Local guide.
There are a few people in the whole world who know something about my motherland – Ukraine. It’s an independent republic for almost 30 years, but still a lot of foreigners think that Ukraine is a part of Russia.
My aim on Google Maps app is to inform foreigners and other Ukrainians about lost history of small Ukrainian towns. Many tourists heard about main Ukrainian cities as Kyiv (Capital of Ukraine), Lvov (Cultural center), Kharkov (Scientific centre) and Odessa (International Port).
But territory of Ukraine is big and I want to travel through undiscovered parts of my Motherland and share information about all Ukranian towns!
Recently I’ve been in such towns of Kharkov region as Chuguiv, Zmiiv and Balakleya. The information here has been made accessible for improved tour experience. I want to share information about small Ukranian towns, that can be a part of unique national tour as a cultural and historical heritage sites.
Chuguyev. If you come to Chuguyev for a day, you will not pass by this cathedral. He’s in the middle. Here is a museum and an art gallery, by the way, as for a small town very curious.

In the 1870s to 1880s Repin visited Chuguyev and gathered materials for his future works. Here in Ukrainian peasant house, he painted his Archdeacon. It represents a life and artifacts of an artist. This house is also a historic monument of regional importance.

There is a historical museum in Zmiiv. Did you know that the oldest settlement dates back to the 1st millennium B.C. Here were the Scythians, Sarmatians, Goths, Huns, Alans, Avars, Polovtsians, Pechenegs, Tatars, and Slavs.

In Balakleya I visited local museum. There collection started in 1962, when an exhibition dedicated to the life and creative path of the famous opera singer of the 30-40s of the XX century, People’s Artist of the USSR, Petrusenko, natives of Balakliya city, opened in the district house of culture.

The landmark of the Balakleya is located next to Rostovtsev Square, behind the district cultural center. Going down the concrete steps of the Komsomolskaya stairs from the top of the hill, you find yourself in the poetic kingdom of the Balakleika River, which has just received the lazy and tranquil waters of Lyakhovka. Here, centuries-old, in three girths, aspenes alternate with weeping willows glorified by poets, and the water seems to have absorbed all the colors of the rainbow from deep brown-yellow to transparent sparkling-silver.
