Unknown Language Confusing me While Adding Missing Place.

(Showing unknown language while adding new / Missing Place in Google Maps)

As reference to above image, When I’m trying to add the missing place in map. Previously If the Place Already exist in Map show already place already exist and it name in English or in Local Marathi Language. But since last month it showing unknown language, When I click on it it’s in English, but When I see above Image , Need Help regarding above issue. I never changed Any language setting from joining and nor any past month. Please suggest what to do in that case.

Hi @SagarKulkarni

This can probably be explained by how the place was added originally. If someone added it using the language you can’t read, and no other names were added, then Google Maps can’t show the name in a language you know.

I recommend you abort the addition and investigate the place mentioned to check if it is a true duplicate.

This is not easy, but having duplicates is something we should avoid.

Maybe the category, the position, and photos, or reviews can give you relevant hints.

@MortenCopenhagen Thank You For Solutions. I always cross check for duplicate place. But Quite Confused Because in above language no one can Add place here in above language . I know the this area and local languages.May be some issue with my language setting or something. Thanks for your valuable suggestion.

This is not correct. Anyone can add places anywhere in any language.

You can say that no one should.

Here where I live Chinese tourists do add shops relevant to them in Chinese language. They are often unaware that the shops are already on the map in Danish and English.

So there is our chance to do a bit of cleanup :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: . (#LGCTM)

Sometimes I am facing the same problem too.

I am insist that I will be fill in the correct one because I am Local Guides.

I am new the current situation because I am in that point and I a from local.

Thank you for raising and highlighting this issue.

I live in Pune too and added about 5 places today afternoon.

I too noticed that several unrelated places were showing this unknown script which is probably a Dravidian language, most likely Kannada.

I think it is highly unlikely that all places were added using this language or script.

This is certainly a glitch in Google Maps on a desktop browser.

@TusharSuradkar I thought may be it is because Last month I visited South Solapur and North Solapur where I added some place in marathi language and some in Kanada that’s why ! I thought it’s showing Kanada annd Telgu Language when I’m adding new places the same place added in above language by someone or may be in marathi but while reminding duplicate places it should be in English.

The language you are confusing is in telugu.May be someone from telugu states who stays in pune created this place
